We have the next generation Golf to examine today. The sixth generation Golf will be the most fuel efficient and the cleanest version so far. It will have the BlueMotion badge which symbolizes fuel-saving tweaks. The new Golf will be able to pull off an outstanding 74 mpg average which is around 62 mpg in the U.S.
Since we said it was the cleanest version of a Golf so far, let’s look at the carbon emissions. This VW has a 99g/km carbon emission which is a number certainly worth sticking on your door, right?
The Golf BlueMotion has a 1.6 liter TDI common rail diesel engine which can unleash 105 horsepower and 184 lbs.-ft. of torque at only 2,000 rpm. Besides that there are low rolling resistance tires, aero tweaks and revised gearing to contribute to that low fuel consumption.
The car is a concept for now but we will probably see a similar version next year after the standard Golf arrives in Europe. An American version of the BlueMotion is unlikely but possible. You will have to wait though.
