Video of the Honda U3-X In Action

I have to admit, when I read Chris’s post about how Honda had managed to come out with a motorized unicycle, I was sure that I had recently taken a sharp blow to the head.  But sure enough, when I went hunting around for more information about this little winner, I found actual video of the device in action.  You can find it directly below the text of this article.

I also have to say, however, that this may well be the dumbest idea I’ve ever seen.  Sure, it’s got the coolness factor, and a motorized unicycle definitely beats cruising around on a Segway where you’ve got to stand up the whole time, but the U3-X has a max speed of four miles per hour.  I hate to tell you, but a normal human’s walking speed is about four miles an hour.

Who would actually ride one of these things when you can get out and walk faster than that?  Granted, walking doesn’t have this kind of cool factor, but if I’m going to stop walking and entrust my mobility to a machine, I expect that machine to move faster than I do.
