Top Gear America Will Develop a 70MPG Car From a 1971 VW Rabbit and $7,000

Does Top Gear America know something about fuel efficiency that we don’t? Is the company ready to offer the world a 70MPG car? And it won’t be a brand new car either. They are going to transform a 1971 VW Rabbit. And they won’t have unlimited funding for that. Only $7,000.

They plan to do it by replacing the engine. I guess we all expected that. A new, computer-controlled turbocharged VW TDI engine will be installed in CWS Tuningin Saskatchewan. Then aerodynamics professor John McNulty from UCLA will make the car more slippery. Then we’ll be all looking for the videos on YouTube to see if they managed to pull it off. We’ll keep you posted of course as this daring enterprise deserves to be recorded in all its glory. Maybe the Detroit car makers should watch closely too.
