Texting While Driving More Dangerous than Driving Under the Influence

This might a bit as a shocker to you folks but it looks like driving while you’re texting sweet messages to your loved messages is more dangerous than driving while under the influence. Car and Driver conducted a test in which it compared drunk driving with driving while texting under tha same conditions. The test has been done at the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport in Oscoda, MI. and the equipment used consisted in a few phones, including the iPhone and a BlackBerry-like Samsung Alias, screwdrivers (yeah the drink) and a Honda Pilot.

A red light mounted on the windshield acted as the car in front and every time it lit up the driver was supposed to hit the brakes while the person in the passenger’s seat was monitoring the results. After a bunch of tries and some complicated speed and response monitoring it all came down to this: don’t drink and drive cause it’s really dangerous. But most importantly don’t ever text and drive as it’s even more dangerous than being drunk at the wheel. See the brain tends to concentrate on the text and forgets about those fast moving cars ahead. Even a few seconds away from the windshield and you could add several feet before coming to a brake. And it might not be a very pleasant brake…
