Last Friday we let you know that Spectre Performance was planning on going up against the world speed record with their Speedliner vehicle, pictured above.

Well, they recently attempted the feat and managed to propell the Speedliner 330.7MPH utilizing the heavily tuned twin turbocharged Cadillac engine.

Back in March we brought you news of a British steam supercar that was going to attempt to break the world steam powered speed record. Well, the British Steam Car Challenge team has officially ran their vehicle and were able to average a top speed of 139.843MPH, a number higher than some gas powered vehicles can go. Furthermore, this beats the previous record of 127MPH set in 1906 by Fred Marriot.

The driver who behind the wheel of this world record car, Charles Burnett, had this to say:

It was absolutely fantastic I enjoyed every moment of it. We reached nearly 140mph on the first run before I applied the parachute. All systems worked perfectly, it was a really good run. The second run went even better and we clocked a speed in excess of 150 mph. The car really did handle beautifully. The team has worked extremely hard over the last 10 years and overcome numerous problems. It is a privilege to be involved with such a talented crew, what we have achieved today is a true testament to British engineering, good teamwork and perseverance.

Have you ever wanted to get your hands on a vehicle that potentially has the ability to reach speeds of up to 1,000mph? Well now you can as the late and great Steve Fossett’s jet car has recently gone on sale over at Project 100.

This car was supposed to be driven by Fossett before he disappeared on September 3rd, 2007 and was said to have a high probability of beating the 763MPH record set by Thrust SSC.
