Three words I’d never thought that I’d type on this blog, easily, by far, are “Twilight”, and “Edward Cullen”.

I hate that movie, frankly.  Most of us probably do.  But since there are enough twelve year old girls amply willing to fork over their babysitting money for a chance to see a glittery emo boi vampire sparkle in the sun, then so be it.  Never let it be said that I won’t jump on a chance at getting new readers.

Anyway, you can now enter a contest that’ll get you a shot at your very own copy of the car that Edward Cullen drives in Twilight, a Volvo XC60.

Here’s how the contest works, via Reuters:

Starting Nov. 1, players can register at www.WhatDrivesEdward.com and will receive clues to help solve a series of puzzles. Since the puzzles increase in difficulty, players are encouraged to exchange hints through Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. The contest runs for three weeks from November 1 through November 23.

So if you’re willing to crawl through a series of puzzles, you too just might take home a hot new Volvo.

Volvo has been known for investing a lot on passenger safety and for the people flocking over to the New York Auto Show, lucky visitors may eventually get a feel of the Volvo Experience as they will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a 2010 Volvo XC60 for the automaker’s ‘XC60 City Safety Experience’.

Volvo’s City Safety, one of the industry’s most advanced safety features, can help the driver avoid low speed collisions when driving in slow moving, stop and go traffic. The laser-based technology continuously monitors the area in front of the vehicle and can brake automatically to help avoid or mitigate a collision.

The XC60 City Safety Experience takes place on the Javits Center’s Inner Roadway and will be open during the public show. Show visitors can experience Volvo’s laser-based safety technology, which detects objects and automatically brakes to avoid rear-end crashes.

Volvo has announced that they will be unveiling 7 fuel-efficient cars at the Geneva Motor Show, all with best-in-class CO2 emission levels. The extremely low figures for the C30, S40 and V50 have been achieved thanks to an advanced Start/Stop system.

The cars that will be unveiled are:

• Volvo C30, 3.9 l/100km, 104g CO2/km
• Volvo S40, 4.0 l/100km, 107g, CO2/km
• Volvo V50, 4.0 l/100km, 107g, CO2/km
• Volvo V70, 4.9 l/100km, 129g, CO2/km
• Volvo S80, 4.9 l/100km, 129g CO2/km
• Volvo XC60, 6.0 l/100km, 159g CO2/km
• Volvo XC70, 6.0 l/100km, 159g CO2/km

The DRIVe badge is attached to cars in the Volvo range that have the best environmental performance in their class. All today’s DRIVe models are equipped with a conventional diesel engine and manual gearbox optimised for extra-low fuel consumption. These cars are also tailored specifically for low rolling resistance and reduced air drag.

Mahmoudia Motors of Jordan today announced the launch of the Volvo XC60. The XC60 is designed in accordance with Volvo’s pioneering and cutting edge preventive safety systems. The launch of the Volvo crossover, described as ‘dressed in a thrilling blend of muscular XC capability and the sporty charisma of a coupe’, took place along with the opening of Mahmoudia Motors, Volvo showroom, located in Wadi Saqra.

The big safety news of the Vovlo XC60 is ‘City Safety’ – a unique feature that can help the driver avoid or reduce the effects of the type of low-speed impacts that are common in city traffic and traffic tailbacks. If the car is about to drive into the vehicle in front and the driver does not react, the car brakes itself.

The new XC60 will initially be available with the six-cylinder turbocharged T6 engine producing 285 horsepower. Turbocharged D5 engine producing 185 horsepower and turbocharged D2.4 producing 163 horsepower are also avaialbe.

All Wheel Drive (AWD) with Instant Traction is fitted as standard on all variants. Owing to its compact dimensions – the XC60 is 20 cm shorter than the XC70 and lower than the XC90 – it continues the range of slimmed-down car models with high energy efficiency. The chassis setting is aggressively sporty without losing anything in terms of comfort.

Expect the SUV world to be rocked by the entry of another model in two months time. The new entrant is the 2010 Volvo XC60 Crossover SUV, highlighted by Volvo’s City Safety program.

The City Safety program uses a closing velocity sensor to determine whether a collision is likely with the vehicle in front and will either pre-charge the brakes or automatically brake and attempt to stop the crossover depending on the closing velocity.

The XC60 will be offered only as a T6 AWD model and will come with 281 hp and standard AWD with Instant Traction. With a base MSRP of under $40,000, the XC60 is expected to make a splash in the small premium utility segment.

With a familiar brand headlining this new entry in the SUV scene, expect curious onlooker to look and test-drive this vehicle closely and see what it has to offer.
