UPS Driver invents cellphone signal blocking peripheral

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

There are numerous studies that show talking on your cellphone while driving dramatically increases your chance of an accident. Laws have been passed in an attempt to combat this but try driving around while counting how many people you see talking on their cellphones, chances are it will be a lot more than 0.

Well, it seems a UPS deliveryman by the name of Fred Wenz has developed a device, with the help of John Fischer, that will effectively prevent drivers from using their cellphones while driving. The device is called the Owner Compliance Key and when activated will block all cell phone signals within a 5-foot radius. It even has the ability to only be activated when a specific key is used to start a car.

The duo is feeling pretty good about their invention saying that they will be able to mass produce Owner Complince Keys for around 10 bucks. Perhaps this is what we need to finally squash this problem.

GMC Truck Turns 1,000,000… Miles

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

A GMC truck in UPS service since 1987 has just turned 1 million miles. The odometer of one Bret Boyd has turned up to zero. That’s quite a performance for a service truck which has been around working full time for about 22 years.

The UPS truck is currently being used in Texas. During its lifetime it has gone through at least three engines and at least three paint jobs. Bret Boyd, its driver, has never been involved in any accidents with the GMC and he refused to replace it when he could have chosen a newer model.

Congratulations to Mr. Boyd and to GMC. I have a suggestion for him, if he still wants to keep the car, he should consider getting an engine that won’t eat as much gas.
