VW and the NHTSA have recently issued a recall that will effect up to 14,416 Touareg SUVs of the 2007-2009 model years. Unfortunately, the car’s spoiler won’t cause the entire vehicle to take flight but the spoiler itself? That’s a different story.

According to VW the spoiler attached to the back of the effected Touaregs poses the threat of possible coming loose from the vehicle and causing all sorts of havoc. The problem deals with loose fastening struts connecting the spoiler to the car.

VW owners can head to their local dealership if they have an effected vehicle where the problem will be fixed for free.

TDl BlueMotion

Next year Volkswagen is planning to launch a new petrol-electric hybrid version of its Touareg in its BlueMotion range but before that comes out, another variation of the good-looking SUV will get the environmentally conscientious stamp of approval.

The new Touareg TDI BlueMotion, just launched in Europe, comes with a 225hp (168kW) V6 TDI turbodiesel engine. This is the same engine found in the standard Touareg TDI clean diesel model that was introduced recently in the U.S., but thanks to a number of fuel saving adjustments the BlueMotion model is up to 10% more fuel-efficient than the already frugal standard model.  Pricing for the new model starts at €50,450 (approximately $70,500) but no word on a U.S. launch.

Brace yourselves for the next hybrid SUV that is expected to come out in 2010. The Touareg BlueMotion Hybrid by Volkswagen will be the first real production hybrid from the German company and will join the automaker’s expanding BlueMotionTechnologies lineup.

The Touareg BlueMotion Hybrid will feature a supercharged 3.0L TSI V6 engine that’s shared with the Audi S4 along with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. While many would likely be awfully pleased just to see that drivetrain in the Touareg, the big news is what’s sandwiched between them, namely, a 38 kW electric motor that gets power from a 288-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack.
