Racing enthusiasts can own a piece of racing history with the McLaren F1 GTR which is one of the 3 successors of the McLaren F1. The F1 GTR is going up for sale from a private collection in Tokyo, Japan. The custom-built race car was introduced in 1995 and is known for its victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car ran for three years from 1995-1997, had a total of 9 chassis built in the first two years and 10 in its final year.

The chassis that will be up for sale is #28R, originally #27R, but was damaged, and rebuilt for GTC Competition as a spare car, raced late in FIA GT in 1997. In 1997, the car generated a conservative 600hp from its de-stroked 6.0L version of the F1’s 60-degree V12. A standard road-going McLaren F1 recently sold at auction for $4 million so this McLaren F1 variant could fetch a similar price.

This year marks the 20th year that Subaru’s performance division, STI, has been operational – Instead of throwing a party, Subaru has decided to open the STI Gallery which is a museum of sorts that showcases everything STI focusing heavily on the racing portion.

WorldCarFans says that the Museum is located at 3-9-6 Osawa, Mitaka, Tokyo and will be open everyday from 9:30am – 7:00pm. The most noteworthy section of the museum would have to be the car exhibits which showcase cars like Colin McRae’s Legacy RS which he used to win the 1993 WRC New Zealand rally.

Lexus has a supercar scheduled to appear at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. Although it was delayed for quite a while the LF-A will appear in just a few months. The LF-A will get you a top speed of at least 218 mph thanks to a new 4.8-liters V10 engine capable of 550 hp and a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox.

Only 500 lucky buyers will be able to get the LF-A as Lexus will not make more than 500 units. The buyers will have to pay about $200,000 to own one and it could be available as early as 2010.

When you combine space with speed, chances are you maybe thinking twice on what type of vehicle can perhaps fit into this category. But for Eva Toftum, this concept which combines the mass transit attributes of a bus with the mobility of a taxi is possible with this new Taxi Tokyo concept.

The Taxi Tokyo concept marries cab and bus in a way to maximize motive power. The base taxi can run about town, shuttling passengers like a traditional car, but when the situation presents itself, it can hook up to an awaiting bus frame with many more passengers and move them toward their programmed destinations.

This concept is based on theories by Ford Motors, David Sperling and others, considering the future city and how the society has to deal with the great amount of new vehicles that put on the street everyday. Motorization is soaring everywhere, with the fastest growth occurring in Asia and Latin America.

The number of motor vehicles other than two-wheelers in the world is expected to double in the next 15 years to 1.3 billion. One solution to the problem will be to revolutionize public transport and design for disassembly.

Taxies, as we know them today, have no specific form or emotional design that shows its different purpose than a private car. Nevertheless the taxi works as a transport which is public, yet it creates a “private” public space.

Volvo is one other big name in the car industry that’s not going to be present at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. The manufacturer wants apparently to save money and hence the decision of not embarking on this Tokyo journey. The Big Three have also announced that they will not go to Tokyo so Volvo’s isn’t the first manufacturer to skip the Japanese Motor Show.

No one else has announced their absence from the show, but if more will, the Tokyo Motor Show officials might cancel the 2009 show. A decision will be made later this month. We’d hate to see this Motor Show canceled. The next show will be held in two years time.
