Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Authority is Watching

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Car jackers and thieves beware! Stealing a car is not as simple and profitable as it may be! For one, you will now be tracked down by this new organization put up in Texas called the Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Authority. And with the economy not cooperating, you can expect some misdemeanors to occur left and right. But car owners can breathe easily. The ABTPA is here to serve and protect.

“Vehicle thefts are gateway crimes to other violent crimes,” said Chief Carlos Garcia, City of Brownsville Police Dept. and ABTPA board chairman. “When we go after car thieves, we catch other criminals, through busts for money, drug and weapon seizures. A car stolen from Houston once was even used as a terrorist car bomb,” added Garcia.

But though they are around, car owners would do well to practice the usual preventive measures. This includes making sure your car is locked and not leaving valuables inside.
