The Nissan 370Z sports car, one of the most wanted cars to date, will be launching in India in 2010. This move, announced by Hover Automotive India Vice Chairman G M Singh, aims to bring more variants to the Indian market despite a limited demand for now. But showing much optimism on the car demand market trend, he expects the demand to increase after some time.

The target date is January 2010 where the Nissan 370Z Sports Car is expected to be priced around Rs 35-38 lakh. At the same time, another car was likewise unveiled in the Micra hatchback which will become available in petrol and diesel. The price range for the Micra is expected to play around Rs 5 lakh.

Nissan is aiming to introduce nine new variants in India by 2012.

It seems that Toyota will in fact be working together with Subaru to produce a sports car – Word comes to us from Toyota’s president himself Mr. Akio Toyoda who confirmed the fact. The company has yet to say anything of the car in terms of specs but speculation points to a 2.0-liter Subaru engine with 160hp and fuel saving technology.

We’ll keep you posted as more information on this collaboration becomes known.

Earlier this month we showed you Honda’s CR-Z hybrid sports car that is supposed to be shipping sometime next year. Well, you didn’t think Toyota would just let Honda off scott free, did you? OK, good as what you see above is apparantly a concept sketch of their Prius coupe.

All of this is currently just a rumor (including the car itself) but reports say that the Prius coupe will feature a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine capable of 134 horsepower along with Toytoa’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system. You can expect this car to be slightly worse in terms of fuel economy given the extra power.

Autoblog reports that we may see this vehicle hit the streets sometime in 2012. However, just like everything else that is cool, there is no word of a North American release. Bummer.

Caterham rose 2009 production levels by around ten percent to 420 units due to the increased demand for its Seven sports car. The British company said that it will enlist additional workforce for the production side of the business to help manage the increased pressure as the company’s order book is already chock-full until mid-October. The manufacturer of the classic two-seater that has remained timeless over the years said that growth from mainland Europe, the UK and other markets has surpassed expectations in 2009.

“Our international sales drive is delivering the results thanks not only to favorable exchange rates but more importantly the quality of business partners we have established in markets including France, Italy, Japan and Germany,” said Ansar Ali, Caterham Cars managing director

Finally the actual price for the 2009 Nissan NISMO 370Z has been revealed. Nissan North America has announced that the second-generation NISMO Z is now available in stores with a MSRP of $39,130. The new car is a dream for most sports car fanatics, carrying an aerodynamic body design, an 18 additional horsepower with sport-tuned suspension.

The 2009 Nissan Nismo 370Z is also equipped with a 350-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 and close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission with SynchroRev Match, a positively super-charged machine to carry on the Nissan name for power and excellence towards its demanding consumer market.

The Swiss company, BRUSA, that specializes in components for electric vehicles, has just revealed a new all-electric roadster known as the Spyder. The car’s origin actually started out as a university thesis for the engineering school of Buchs NTB in Switzerland, but with support from BRUSA, we could possibly see it competing against other electric sports cars such as the Tesla Roadster.

The body design is influenced from a number of sources. The Spyder is not quite as quick as the Tesla Roadster but will still do 62mph in less than six seconds with a top speed of more than 125mph. The battery has a capacity of 16kWh, which can get the Spyder over a distance of 80 miles when traveling at an average speed of 50mph. It will take three hours to charge the battery to 60% but a solar lay out on the roof helps speed this process up. No word yet on production.

Word has recently gotten out that Honda may be prepping to launch 2 new hybrid powered sportscars sometime soon. Of course, it still stands at a rumor at this point.

Anyways, the above pictured vehicle is a CR-Z coupe which has some concrete evidence to supports its existence. AutoBlogGreen says it could possibly feature a 4 cylinder 2.5-liter engine with direct injection.

The second car’s details, however, are a bit sketchy; rumor has it the car may be a follow up to the now defunct S2000 codenamed the FF-S2000. This car is said to have a 6 cylinder 3.5-liter engine and a KERS system to aid the car’s hybrid powertrain. For those who don’t know, KERS stands for kinetic energy recovery system which you can read about here.

This would all be great news if it were confirmed, a step in the right direction to show people you can be environmentally friendly without sacrificing power. But unfortunately, like I said before, it’s still just a rumor at this point.

We may be in recession but car lovers are still looking for sports cars. According to carmax.com, car shoppers searching online for sports cars increased six percent in April from the previous month. Online sports car searches are up eight percent over January’s figures.

The No. 1 searched car on carmax.com for April was the popular Ford Mustang sports car. This was the first month it landed the top spot in searches in the last several years.

Three other sports cars ranking in the top 20 online searches for April were:

• 13th position – Infiniti G35
• 14th position – Dodge Charger
• 17th position – Chevrolet Corvette

“Whether customers are searching for that ‘instant classic’ or just a fun ride for the summer, carmax.com is the best place to find a car of any vehicle type that matches their needs,” said Ann Yauger, director of carmax.com. “Within the CarMax inventory there are thousands of vehicles of all makes and models for customers to choose from.”

Standing Room Only! That is what happened when Porsche formally introduced the much awaited Porsche Panamera four door performance car at the Shanghai Motor Show. Presented with great pride and fanfare at the company’s Shanghai Motor Show exhibit, the Panamera is unique in the premium sedan segment thanks to its ’sports car for four’ concept and its best-in-class fuel efficiency.

“The crucial task for our engineers was to combine Porsche’s sporting DNA with all the spaciousness and driving comfort of a luxurious sedan,” said Wolfgang Durheimer, who was on hand for the debut and is Porsche’s executive vice president of research and development. “The Panamera is an alternative car concept for the premium customer, and while competing with established vehicles in the premium class, it will be a clear segment leader in terms of performance, driving dynamics and efficiency.”

The Panamera is Porsche’s fourth model line, joining the 911, Boxster/Cayman and Cayenne model series. It is the first premium car with an automatically shifting double-clutch transmission to feature an engine start/stop system that saves fuel and reduces emissions by turning the engine off when it is not needed, such as sitting at a stop light, for example. All engines have advanced and fuel-efficient Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), as well.

The Panamera goes on sale at authorized U.S. Porsche dealers on Oct. 17, 2009. The manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) for the Panamera S is $89,800, while the Panamera 4S and Panamera Turbo retails for $93,800 and $132,600, respectively.

The auto adjustments “provide the vehicle with the optimum angle of attack at the right height in order to achieve the require amount of down-force to maintain the right traction for greater performance.”

It recognizes sprint/drag mode, drift mode, and whatever other mode you make up. Probably not hot-lava mode. But most modes. Oh, and, it fits on most any sports-car just like any other ordinary custom GT Wing.

This product will come into production as early as 2010.

In a preliminary move by Tesla Motors as far as establishing a global distribution for its electric vehicles, the first official regional sales and service center was opened today in London. The London facility will open this spring at 49-51 Cheval Place, formerly the Segrave Supercar Club. The showroom is in the popular Knightsbridge district, walking distance from Harrods department store and convenient to Heathrow Airport.

Tesla is scouting sites in Munich and Monaco. Tesla will begin delivering cars to European customers in late June. These cars will comply with all EU safety, environmental and durability regulations.

Greater London is a key customer market and premier showcase for Tesla – not only for the Roadster sports car but the Model S sedan, which Tesla expects to produce in 2011. The Model S, which will be among the world’s first mass-produced, highway-capable EVs, will carry five adults and two children up to 480 kilometers per charge.

Tesla’s first showrooms opened last summer in Los Angeles and Menlo Park, Calif. Tesla will open another store this spring in Chicago. Tesla is finalizing site selection in Manhattan, Miami and Seattle and is scouting sites in Washington, D.C.

Another auto company has been bitten by the faltering economy as the employees at the Bowling Green, Kentucky Corvette plant are being hit again by more production shut-downs, layoffs and restructuring at General Motors. Despite the sports car’s popularity, it’s not translating into sales. Demand has dropped by fifty percent over the past year.

As the company looks at economical ways to produce cars, assembly lines at the Corvette plant will shut down three times this spring for two weeks at a time. It was already closed for two months at the start of the year. This means some employees will be off the job for 6 weeks, while others will be off for good. In addition to about 130 indefinite layoffs, the plant plans to cut another 110 workers throughout the year.

Despite the production reduction, company manager Paul Graham says he’s encouraged by die-hard Corvette lovers who continue to buy the product during this economic crisis.
