Sure Mercedes has come forth in the past to say that they are in fact working on the 2010 SLS AMG but they haven’t released very many details or official images of the vehicle. Today however, they have done just that, as you can see above.

Under the hood the car is said to have a 6.3-liter V8 capable of 563HP and 480 pounds-per-feet of torque. Couple that with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and you get a sprint from 0 to 60 in just 3.7 seconds nad a top speed of 197.

We’ll have to wait until the Frankfurt Motor Show next week to hear more of the 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG.

Mark this down as one of the worst kept secrets of all time — Mercedes-Benz recently stepped forward to officially announce that they will be manufacturing an all-electric version of their SLS AMG who’s pictures were leaked a few days ago.

Don’t expect the car to lose all of its power just because it’s an EV as it will feature a seperate motor for each wheel making for a maximum output of 392 KW or 526 HP. This compares to its 6.3-liter V8 brethren with 563HP and 479 pounds of torque. Furthermore, Mercedes has said the car will have a 0-62MPH sprint in just 4 seconds.

Now all we need to know is a price point and release date.

First, Mercedes gave us a look at a concept drawing of their SLS AMG and gave us a few details on its interior. Following that, leaked images of the car’s exterior found their way onto the internet thus starting up the hype train.

Now, a writer over at Edmunds Inside Line was been given the chance to drive a pre-production model of the car and has provided us all with a review. Additionally, some pictures of the actual car were posted although it has been heavily camoflauged to hide its exterior details.

Below is a quote from the review showcasing the car’s immense power:

“The modified AMG V8 has a whole new level of throttle response. You can sense the eagerness building from down low in the rpm range, which isn’t much of a surprise given the sturdy 402 lb-ft of torque available at just 2,500 rpm.

On a flowing track like this, you’re rarely using less than half the engine’s available revs. And sure enough, it is through the midrange where the full extent of the changes made to the 6.2-liter V8 become evident. When your foot is heavy on the throttle pedal, the engine hauls with great enthusiasm, racing around to the 5,000-rpm sweet spot. But with the redline set at 7,200 rpm, there’s a lot more to come.”

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled interior images and a few design sketches of its SLS AMG, which is a V8-powered supercar in development that will be launched in spring 2010. This supercar has an aluminium spaceframe and body with gullwing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid engine, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration and sports suspension with aluminium double wishbones.

It will also have a long hood, large wheels, wide track and long wheelbase. The interior promises to be sporty, dominated by a wing-shaped dashboard and it will feature four prominent air vents and fine quality leather providing a classy look.
