The U.S. government has imposed a tax break on people buying new vehicles, a move that may somehow try to improve the faltering business of the automotive industry. Perhaps a tax break aiming to cut the cost of a new car by $1,500 or more will start luring customers back into the car showrooms.

The Senate hopes so, adding the plan to a $900 billion package of tax cuts, benefit increases and government projects aimed at finding jobs for Americans and getting them to start spending again.

“If you buy a car, someone’s got to make them, someone’s got to sell them, someone has to service them and someone has to provide administrative services,” said Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., who wrote the measure. “So this amendment is good for the manufacturers, the dealers, the suppliers and the consumers.”

The people who are behind the Terrafugia Transition may be watching too much “Transformers” and science fiction movies. Whatever the case may be, we may soon witness the first transforming car. The Terrafugia Transition concept car can reportedly transform from a two-seater plane into a road-legal car with just one push of a button.

“It’s like a little Transformer,” says Carl Dietrich, the Terrafugia boss, proudly. “This is the first really integrated design where the wings fold up automatically and all the parts are in one vehicle. All we have is one simple folding wing, and that means the Transition takes just 15 seconds to switch between flying and driving.”

The Terrafugia Transition is expected to be unveiled by next month and seen in showrooms by next year.
