We love those photographers with their long lenses and sneaky attitudes, who manage to take spy shots of upcoming cars, even if they’re covered by layers of plastic. Like the 2012 Mercedes S-class, which you can see above. More spy shots here.

Mercedes wants in the hybrid business and the German manufacturer certainly knows how to make an appearance. Not only is the new S-Class ESF supposed to be a hybrid car but it’s also supposed to pretty luxurious. And since it’s already energy efficient and has the looks to make an impression with the ladies, why not make it extra safe too?
The ESF comes with too sets of airbags, some are conveniently placed inside, nothing special with that, but some are even more conveniently placed outside, which is absolutely special. Under the car there’s a huge braking bag which is ready to deploy every time it “senses an imminent crash”. Besides contributing to the stop of the car the outside airbag manages to lift the front of the car about 8cm from the ground in order to compensate for brake dive.
Mercedes hasn’t stopped there. There are even more safety features available. You’ll find curtain airbags between the seats, airbags within the seatbelts, reflective tires and some inflatable metal structure through the vehicle which should be really useful in case of crashes.
With all that safety around a hybrid car one can’t help but wonder if Mercedes thinks its S-Class hybrid will be a danger on the road or not. I mean clearly those guys are expecting the ESF to crash sooner rather then later right? Leaving jokes aside we’ll be looking forward to see some of these extra safety features implemented in more Mercedes cars. Maybe the competition should be learn a thing or two from Mercedes here.

Mercedes-Benz recently announced that they will begin offering AMG Sports packs for their C-Class and CL-Class models.
These beefed up models will include an updated body kit, as you can see above, that will set these models apart from their lesser tuned counterparts. They will also feature upgraded breaks with bigger rotors housed behind either 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside will be home to a whole slew of wood trim along with a wood/leather wrapped steering wheel.
The AMG Sports pack equipped S and CL models will apparently be available in Europe starting in June with no word on US availability.
Press release after the break.

Well folks in case you’re not sure about how smart the dashboard of your next Mercedes might be, then you should definitely give this SplitView a chance.
It’s an LCD which will be mounted in your dashboard. What’s so special about wit? Well the name says it all. Despite being a single screen it will offer two different views to you and the passenger riding shotgun.
The driver can check the GPS and its instructions while the person on its right (or left for that matter) can watch a movie. The next S-Class Mercedes-Benz will get the technology in summer 2009.
An 8-inch TFT will do the job for you. The image is created by alternating rows of pixels. A masking lens will be used in order for each passenger to see it’s version of the picture.
What about controlling it? Well the driver will use the buttons on the dash while the passenger will use a remote control to choose what movie to watch today. Or TV channel for that matter.
