I don’t know about you guys but Top Gear has long been one of my favorite automotive television shows currently airing. In their latest stunt, Jeremy Clarkson, the show’s host, decided to race a BMW Z4 against a 370Z.

In the end the 370Z beats the Z4 which shouldn’t come as as surprise considering the 370Z has about 25 more horsepower than the Z4.

In the end, Clarckson says the Z4 would be a better buy because it’s “slower, less exciting, more expensive and less well equipped.” For those of you scratching your head, it’s called sarcasm, my friends.

Now before I comment on the above video let me give you a little background on the cars in question. Nissan’s  GT-R has widely been regarded as one of the most technologically advanced cars on the road. Under the hood the GT-R sports a twin-turbocharged V6 engine rated at around 500HP. The Bugatti Veyron on the other hand features a quad-turbocharged W12 engine rated at 1,001HP. Which do you think would win on a 1/4 mile?

It seems obvious but British magazine evo decided to put it to the test, you know, just for kicks. As you can see, the GT-R takes off a bit faster than the Veyron but as both of them near maximum RPMs the GT-R is left looking about as slow as a bicycle.

Which car would you choose to drive? Take into account that the Veyron costs over $1,000,000 while the GT-R costs around $100,000.

Either or, it’s always fun to see two highly sought after cars go head to head down a strip.

Things are starting to get a little hot in the battle between the Forumla 1 Teams Association and Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (aka the FIA). It seems that the two parties has a bit of an argument which resulted in 8 Forumla 1 teams, namely Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, BMW, Toyota, Red Bull and Toro Rosso (FOTA), to break away completely and announce that they will hold their own championship series in 2010.

Below are segments of the press release explaining the situation, courtesy of Autoblog:

“The teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship.

“These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new Championship which reflects the values of its participants and partners. This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including offering lower prices for spectators worldwide, partners and other important stakeholders.

“The major drivers, stars, brands, sponsors, promoters and companies historically associated with the highest level of motorsport will all feature in this new series.”

With such major brands breaking away from the FIA it will be very hard for the federation to hold their own. F1 fans need not worry as this is in favor of the series. Let’s wait and see how this unfolds.

Would you believe that a 268 horsepower electric powered Dodge concept wearing a Lotus body could beat a new Dodge Challenger SRT-8?

Well in a recent short race from a stop during a recent show-off session of the new Dodge EV, that was exactly what happened.

The Rose Bowl parking lot was the site of the showdown between high-performance and high technology, and the result helped to secure the idea that not all electric vehicles are just for low-cost commuting.  So many companies have turned to hybrid and electric vehicles as a solution for “responsible efficient transportation”, that the enthusiasts’ standpoint has been forgotten.

The alternative power vehicles are a great alternative for those who only use their car to get from point A to point B, but for many of us, driving is an enjoyable experience, and the Dodge EV plans to prove that electric vehicles can provide the same fun as a combustion engine powered vehicle.

We’re going to have to keep an eye on this Lamborghini. It might just be the car we’ll never be even close to buying. Nonetheless it looks great and it should be fast too. The Gallardo Super Trofeo has been officially taken out for a spin at the Vallelunga Race Track in Italy.

The car, said to be the fastest single-brand competition car will run in its first race on May 2 of next year at Silverstone. That 5.2L direct injection V10 engine will pop out 570 horsepower and it will be bundled with a six-sped gear box and all-wheel-drive. How does that sound for you. Too fast? We’ll know more in a little over 5 months from now!

How do you like this concept car in the pictures here? It’s the MMR25 Rally Racer from Mitsubishi and it’s the model chosen to enter this year’s LA Auto Show design competition. Last year’s theme was “green” and this year’s theme is Motorsport 2025.

The MMR25 certainly looks like the future race car. It works on four lightweight, high-efficiency, in-wheel electric motors. Their output will be boosted by eight additional motors. The batteries will get you about 1,000 miles on a charge. Besides keeping the much needed power, the batteries will also lower the center of gravity bringing better stability to the table.

If you think the wheels are funny that’s because the MMR25 has an “8×4″ wheel drive. Every single wheel has an independently controlled electric motor. Driving, drifting, moving sideways is now possible with this unique concept.

The driver sits inside the center wing. There’s no actual windows but the driver has a 360-degree panoramic screen which will display all the images around him like he would see them through a glass.

Well do I get one? I only have about 17 years to wait for it!

The European Le Mans Series will show us a great Peugeot finale. The company is going to get a new 908 HY race care based on the 908 HDi FAP which you might remember from this year’s 24 Hours Race at Le Mans. What’s interesting about the new version is that it’s a hybrid race care

Under the hood, the 908 HY will have a KERS, a 60kW electric motor, ten lithium-ion battery packs arranged in two different locations and a power converter to turn all that juice into power. The 908 HY can also run its V12 engine or combine the two. The electric motor can be powered automatically or whenever the driver feels like getting some more power. The electric motor can get him an extra 80 horsepower for about 20 seconds. The whole hybrid system will also save some fuel, as it’s a hybrid after all.

The car is ready to race. If the officials will allow it, you might see a whole new Peugeot lining up at Le Mans Series races.

You’ll see the fastest cars and motorbikes on Earth battle each other. Well you’d better hope to see them since they’re going to fly around you. The event is going to take place this September from 22 to 26. Right before the 2008 Paris Motor Show.
