The US Government has just come forth to let us know that the Cash for Clunkers program is officially coming to an end on Monday, August 31s. The feds haven’t said much about why the program will be getting killed off sooner than thought but a logical guess could point to the fact that the entire $3 billion budget has been exhausted.

This comes to us after the Government had told us yesterday that they would announce their plans to bring the program to a close. We’ll keep you posted as more news is made available.

Tesla has recently announced an incentive for existing owners of their all-electric offerings in hopes to spur more sales. This is your run of the mill customer referral program that will net you a $500 check if you get someone else to buy one of Tesla’s vehicles.

Make note that this won’t apply to those who buy the Model S as it only works once your buddy buys a Roadster and receives delivery. Sure, $500 may not seem like a lot when comparing it to the price of the car but in these times every penny counts.

We’ve known about the GM/eBay partnership since early last month but haven’t heard much about its progress since. Today, however, we have some concrete details on when exactly the program will go live.

It seems that GM is gearing up to launch a trial of the program tomorrow through September 8th in California thanks to 225 of their dealerships whom will be participating. Included in this new car auction campaign are Chevrolet, Pontiac, GMC and Buick models which you can bid on by going to gm.ebay.com or chevy.ebay.com. Of course, those two websites won’t go live until tomorrow when the program is officially set to.

If this program proves to be in GM’s best interest I see no reason why the automaker wouldn’t launch it nationwide.

It seems that United States President Barack Obama is really kicking his green campaign into high gear, recently explaining to the public that we desperately need to form a greener society.

Apparently, Obama thinks America is ready to “be part of a mission” to end our dependency on foreign oil and move towards a cleaner energy source. But how?

Well, enforce a CO2 cap & trade program, of course! Not to mention the need to move away from those damn gas guzzling vehicles. Let’s hope America believes in the President enough to follow his words because if not, it could cost us our future.
