This one is just about certain to amaze you because it exists for virtually no clear reason.  See, I was reading about the Porsche Cayenne, and of course, since it’s a Porsche it’s awesome.  But what they wanted to include as an option, for the low price of twenty one hundred bucks, just blew my mind.

What does twenty one hundred bucks get you when you’re a Porsche owner?  Brace yourselves–it gets your heater vents trimmed in LEATHER.

No, seriously.  They actually think you’re dumb enough to pay the price of an entire used car (if you shop carefully) for leather trim around the heater vents.  Will you even notice after the leather has been put on?  Probably not.  It’s not like it’ll improve the heater’s capabilities or anything like that.

No, all it’ll do is blow twenty one hundred dollars of your hard earned money on one of the dumbest car gadgets I’ve ever heard of.

he Porsche Cayenne has seen some features improve that helps to turn this SUV into a sports car designed for the family. The Turbo S model, introduced in 2009, features a 550 horsepower, 4.8 liter V 8 engine. That increases the amount of horsepower considerably. Also changed up is the torque. The vehicle now has 553 pounds of torque, up 37 from the previous version. This top of the line model runs $124,800. A smaller, 290 horsepower, 3.6 liter V 6 engine is priced at just $45,000 and still gives the consumer what is expected from the Porsche name brand.

Why the reduced price? The cost of a Porsche Cayenne is still high, but this vehicle is being billed as a family vehicle with more room and more safety features. It also is more fuel efficient.

BMW lovers can now map out how they can get their hands on the BMW X5M and X6M as their prices have been made public. The X5M will ding your budget to the tune of $85,400, while the X6M will set you back $88,900.

But for nearly $90,000, you get what, for now, are the two most powerful BMWs on the road. Both models will reap the benefits of a 555 hp, 500 lb-ft twin turbo 4.4L V8. That’s 55 hp and 105 lb-ft more than the M5 or M6; two vehicles that cost more than their crossover counterparts. The M treatment will also add more aggressive aesthetics, torque-vectoring AWD, and massive 15.6 inch front rotors to help these flying bricks stop on a dime (or 900,000 dimes, really).

Does that make the X5M and X6M a compelling value? If you’re in the market for a 550 hp crossover, we guess so, because outside of the substantially more expensive Porsche Cayenne Turbo S ($124,000) these new Bimmers are the only other family-haulers with that kind of muscle.

Porsche expects the Cayenne S Hybrid to consume less than nine liters of fuel per 100 kilometers in the New European Driving Cycle. EPA fuel economy figures are not yet available.
