Volvo has recently announced that they are issuing a recall for 17,614 2008-09 vehicles including the S80, V70 and XC70 models.

The automaker says that there is an error in the on-board software’s programming that could potentially cause the engine’s cooling fan to fail. This means bad air-conditioner performance but more importantly could cause the engine to fail raising all sorts of safety risks.

Volvo says to head to their local dealership to get the car inspected and outfitted with a new fan control module, if necessary, free of charge.

Audi has recently announced that they will begin introducing their stop/start fuel-saving technology in Europe later this year.

Audi says the new system will allow for a lowered fuel consumption of .2 liters per 100 kilometers drive and 5 grams less of carbon emissions per kilometer. And, to coincide with its launch, Audi is also outing a new on-board computer system that will suggest driving techniques that will improve fuel economy based on the driver’s actions.

Let’s hope that Audi’s move towards a greener future will entice other carmakers to follow suit.
