With the projected demand for electric and hybrid vehicles expected to boom in the coming years, the need for lithium-ion batteries is expected to rise as well. And while many companies have come up with their various versions of lithium-ion batteries for their cars, Nissan and Ener1 have partnered to try and come up with a new generation of electrical conductive material intended to reduce cost and improve the performance of electric and hybrid vehicle batteries.

For sure, once electric transportation dominates the market, focus will be on the batteries for cars. We have seen a wide array of lithium-ion batteries in the market and for sure further enhancements will be coming out once they are used in the market.

Apparently, Nissan is not taking any chances. And with their affiliation with Ener1, Nissan is looking towards the future for broader options as far as batteries are concerned. It is practically imminent that lithium-ion batteries will be replacing fuel and be the next need that motorists will be cramming for.

The new generation Volvo hybrid double deck buses made a memorable debut today at the Alexandra Palace, signaling the start of eco-friendly transportation that are tasked to render service to Arriva London.

A total of six Volvo B5L Hybrid Double Deck buses have recently entered service on Route 141 in the UK’s capital city and representatives from Volvo Bus and Arriva London, together with other stakeholders gathered to formally mark another historic occasion at the Alexandra Palace.

The new Hybrid Double Deck buses offer savings both in terms of fuel consumption and emissions. Evidence from test tack development and in service field trials with Arriva London show significant savings in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (C02) emissions as well as reduction in Nitrous Oxides and particulates.

By 2011, Britain is poised to make sure that the shift towards electric vehicles is done to fall in line with its “electric car cities” plan. Motorists in Britain are to be offered up to $9,000 Cdn to encourage them to buy electric or hybrid cars under a new government plan. The incentives will be offered from 2011 when a new generation of electric cars is expected to become available

Environmental groups said it was a step in the right direction but fell short of initiatives in other European countries, such as Denmark, which are far ahead in the race to go green. Business Secretary Peter Mandelson and Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon announced the plan in Scotland as part of a $500-million scheme to cut emissions and at the same time help the struggling motor industry.

Electric cars cost an average of $24,000, but go up to more than $80,000 for high-performance models. A national demonstration project will give a small sample of around 200 motorists the opportunity to drive a cutting-edge car and give feedback to the industry. Green groups said the plans would make little difference if the electricity used to power them came from dirty coal-fired power stations.
