Nissan has annouced today that they will be recalling a staggering 143,000 vehicles of the 2008-2010 model year including the Cube, Murano, Rogue and Infiniti M35/M45.

Apparently, there is a problem with a nut in the Tire Pressure Monitoring system that has the possibility of corrosion due to salted roads. If this nut were to corrode it could cause the system to malfunction making the driver unaware of a possible deflation. Just imagine, the nut comes out and the system malfunctions and then sometime after you get a flat tire and aren’t made aware of it. Safety hazard? You betcha.

Nissan says to head to your local Infiniti or Nissan dealership to get the problem checked out.

Audi just recently announced that they will give Cash for Clunker buyers an additional $1,000 when they purchase one of their vehicles so it would only make sense that additional automakers would come up with similar deals.

Nissan is next in line with a round of incentives that will run through August 31st.

Below is the full list of incentives:

• 2009 Nissan Altima Coupe and sedan: $1,500 cash back or 1.9% financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Armada: $4,000 cash back or 1.9% financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Frontier: $2,500 or 0.9% financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Maxima: $1,750 cash back or 2.9% financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Murano: $500 or 2.9% financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Pathfinder: $2,500 cash back or 1.9% financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Quest: $3,000 cash back or 0.9% financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Rogue: $500 cash back or 2.9%  financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Sentra: $2,000 cash back or 0.9% financing for 60 months
• 2009 Nissan Xterra: $2,000 or 1.9% financing for 60 months

Let’s hope that this will make automakers jump on board and give consumers further discounts when using the Cash for Clunkers program.

And I thought Pontiac’s problem was widespread — Nissan has recently issued a recall dealing with Murano’s manufactured from 2003-2007, 362,981 to be exact.

This problem focuses on the intake air ducts with could potentially become seperated from the intermediate resonator found in the air intake system due to accelerated aging of the duct material. This problem could potentially have the Murano’s stalling out while in use making for a huge safety hazard.

Nissan says that Murano owners should have a chat with their dealers who will fix the problem free of charge.

Apparently Nissan is moving forward with its plans to build a convertible Nissan Murano crossover SUV. No one really knows why, especially in this market. Initial rumors cropped up up late last year, but nothing was heard since – until recently. The report seems credible, suggesting that the vehicle will be sold as a 2011 model, featuring a soft top and will get its power from the regular Murano 265hp (197kW) 3.5L V6, according to Edmunds.

What is most interesting, the Murano convertible will supposedly be a two-door configuration, making it a sort of SUV-crossover-roadster. Who can forget the sensational success that was the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro concept, which was a vehicle most people in their right mind would not buy. If it actually does get built, here’s wishing Nissan success.
