It seemed that Tesla did a bit of planning ahead with their Model S as it was recently announced that the car was designed with the ability to have its battery swapped out from the get go.

What’s even better is the design allows for a very fast swap so a potential driver would be able to do it in less than 5-minutes. Just imagine, you’re cruising along and your battery runs out of juice but no worries because you have another fully juiced up battery in the trunk that you can swap out in under 5 minutes.

Of course, this also means that Tesla can sell different batteries for the Tesla Model S that could potentially make for a cheaper purchase price tag while still leaving room for a hassle free upgrade.

It was recently made known that Daimler would be buying a 10% stake in Tesla motors, makers of the popular all electric Tesla Roadster.

The announcement was made during a press release held at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart earlier today. This new deal involves Daimler providing parts and engineering that may be appearing in the upcoming Tesla Model S.

Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Daimler, comments on the parnternship:

Our strategic partnership is an important step to accelerate the
commercialization of electric drives globally. As a young and dynamic company Tesla stands for visionary power and pioneering spirit. Together with Daimler’s 120 years of experience in the automotive sector this collaboration is a unique combination of two companies’ strengths. This marks another important milestone in Daimler’s strategy for sustainable mobility.

While the Tesla Roadster is indeed a very expensive car, no matter how hot it is, the Tesla Model S sedan is a very affordable electric car. The new car which you have already seen yesterday comes with a price tag of less than $50,000, after a $7,500 federal tax credit.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk says the car is quite a bargain compared to any other sedan. He says that:

the ownership cost of Model S, if you were to lease and then account for the much lower cost of electricity versus gasoline at a likely future cost of $4 per gallon, is similar to a gasoline car with a sticker price of about $35,000.

The car will be a bargain even if the gas would cost $1 per gallon as it will cost you just $5 to drive for 230 miles. Would you buy the Model S when it comes available?

With everyone hopping on the government bailout train, you can’t critizie Tesla for at least trying, right? Well, remember that post talking about how the Tesla Model S wouldn’t be able to go into production unless it was given a government load of some ridiculous amount of money?

Yeah, now they are saying they can’t even have a pre-production model ready in time without that loan. Sounds crazy, right? While many had hoped we’d get a glimpse of the beauty sometime this year, it’s recently been confirmed that we won’t.

Oh well, let’s just hope Tesla still exists in the spring of next year when we are supposed to see the Model S for real.

The Tesla electric car is quite an innovative car. Its Model S is an all-electric, five passenger sports sedan car which will sit on a Tesla original platform. The 2010 model will get you no less than 240 miles per charge which is quite a lot. The Model S will get to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. Add to that its looks and you will end up with a price containing lots of zeros and one six! It will cost $60,000. But as always, think about all that gas you’re going to be saving! I’ll buy this Tesla in a heartbeat! All I need now is $59,999 to get one!
