Norway Banning Gas-Powered Cars?

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

You know this would be coming. A ban on future gas-powered cars seems likely to happen one of these days and if this proposal from Finance Minister Kirstin Halvorsen is any indication, it may soon happen right on Norway’s very own turf.

“This is much more realistic than people think when they first hear about this proposal,” she told Reuters, defending a plan by her Socialist Left Party to outlaw sales of cars that run solely on fossil fuels in six years’ time.

“The financial crisis also means that a lot of those car producers that now have big problems … know that they have to develop their technology because we also have to solve the climate criss when this financial crisis is over,” she said.

“That is why we would like a ban from 2015,” she said, during an exhibition in Oslo of electric and biofuel-powered cars during which she raced a red and white Mitsubishi electric car around a course against several other politicians.

The question here is, who is really in the pressure cooker? Would it be the consumers or the car manufacturer/s? The intent is good but it seems that declaring something like this needs more than just a plain proclamation.

Mitsubishi Launches First Blu Ray Car Disc Player

Monday, February 16th, 2009

It was only a matter of time before we saw Blu Ray players made for cars. And with this announcement, it looks like Japan’s Mitsubishi Electric beat everyone to the gun. Mitsubishi Electric recently announced that it plans to bring its single-DIN automotive Blu-ray Disc player to the market. The player is just a third of the volume of the company’s home theater Blu-ray disc player.

No information as to whether Mitsubishi will sell the player as a standalone option or build it into its vehicles, and pricing information or more specific release information is likewise unknown.
