Car tires are important when it comes to addressing fuel consumption and tire use. Some say that it all depends on the tires used while others claim it depends on the brand. Michelin has been a popular brand of tires that provides quality products and to maintain that hold, they have partnered with Clean Air Tours to educate drivers on the environmental impact of their products.

“Many consumers do not realize the impact tires can have on the environment,” said Parmeet Grover, brand director, Michelin North America. “Our goal in partnering with the Clean Air Green Tour is to reinforce our message that tires make a difference. At Michelin, we are committed to providing consumers with a wide range of environmentally-friendly passenger car and light-truck tires (marked with a Green X) that achieve the highest levels of energy-efficiency without sacrificing other performances such as safety or mileage.”

In addition to featuring passenger car and light-truck tires for consumers, the tour will cover over 30,000 miles in a solar-powered bus fitted with MICHELIN X One wide single tires.

This year marks the third “Clean Air Green Tour”, which launched on April 14 in New York City. The tour will make stops at 40 Lowe’s stores, 14 Wal-Mart Supercenters and eight major festivals covering over 30,000 miles. In addition, they will hold tree plantings in five cities and host a community clean-up day.

A prototype of the Acura DZX debuted at the New York Auto Show, boasting of provocative luxury four door sports coupe which is scheduled to on sale in the fall of 2009. The segment bending ZDX features stunning coupe-like styling with the added benefit of a commanding presence and flexible utility.

The ZDX is designed to break new ground for Acura in the areas of provocative styling, contemporary luxury and meticulous refinement. With its sensuous curves, sharply raked roofline and bold fender flares, the ZDX blurs the distinction between coupe, sedan and sport utility vehicle.

In keeping with the coupe-inspired styling, the rear door handles are cleverly concealed in the C-pillar. The all-glass tailgate opens wide to reveal a highly functional cargo space with integrated under-floor storage. The prototype is finished off with stylish dual chrome exhaust outlets and 9-spoke machined wheels fitted with 20-inch Michelin tires.

“From the very first sketch of the ZDX, I wanted to create an emotional vehicle that challenged conventional thinking of what a sports coupe should be,” said Michelle Christensen, ZDX exterior designer. “My goal was to create a strikingly beautiful exterior, and use that attraction to help draw you into the rich interior.”

In something that is tied up with the current economic crisis, Brunei motorists are reportedly buckling down to wiser spending as far as their cars are concerned and it all starts with the tires that they are using. Normally, they would go for the classy Michelin tires for their cars. But no thanks to the economic turmoil, they have shifted towards cheaper tires like BF Goodrich, a sign their spending power might already have been weakened.

“We carry affordable tyres to high-end, branded tyres like Michelin and now the spending power is definitely lower because people are being more economical in what they are purchasing,” said Yee. “Now those people who used to purchase Michelin tyres have dropped to purchase BF Goodrich tyres.” He added that the spending power isn’t as strong as the recent years mainly due to the loan and credit card repayments catching up with people’s spending habits.
