Oh yes, folks, there’s nothing quite like watching a pair of big names go at it, and in this case, we’ve got a couple of the biggest. It’s the Ford Mustang Shelby versus the Mercedes E55 AMG Kompressor, and it’ll be a doozy, make no mistake.
And from the looks of this video, the winner may not necessarily be who you’d might think it’d be. It’ll be something of a surprise.
But the most interesting thing is leafing through the commentary on this one–there are some really RABID car fans out there, and they’re out in full force on this one. Oh, believe me, I understand backing fandom. I’ve had these kinds of discussions before about George Romero movies. But we really need to bear in mind how important it is to remember that there’s no one right or wrong car, just right for you.
So enjoy the video, and maybe go have some fun arguing over whether the German or the American car is better.
The answer to that question, for most people is likely to be “Well yeah, probably, unless you actually think a Mercedes could drive on the roof of a tunnel.” but some analysis has been done and posted to YouTube, dissecting the car commercial into bits and pieces, and possibly, showing the underpinnings of this impressive video.
Like I said, it’s probably not too out of line to suggest that most people don’t believe a frame of that particular commercial and instead choose to regard it as a really sweet commercial that they probably shouldn’t try at home.
But for those who are having doubts as to the veracity of this commercial, then this video may well help cement your position.
Or it may not, in all honesty–the reasoning is kind of weak, and you’ll see it if you take a spin through this. If you’re into dissecting commercials, then this video is going to give you all the thrill you ever wanted.
A number of concept cars and prototypes were shown off at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, providing consumers a sneak peak on what the world of motoring has in store for them. Notable automakers were on hand to show off their concept vehicles such as the MINI which showed off its Beachcomber concept, Hyundai with its first hybrid and GMC with the Granite.
Mercedes, Ford, Toyota and Volkswagen also showed off their design and engineering chops at the show. To see what went on over there, check out the video below.
Back in the day, diesel engines were good because they sipped gas but no one really gave a rats ass about what was coming out of the exhaust pipe. Now a days, the restrictions are a bit more tight so cars like the Mercedes-Benz GL320 BluTec are required to use AdBlue, an additive that makes the exhaust a bit less toxic.
This is great and all but a recent report done by Consumer Reports let us know just how expensive this additive is. In just about 15,000 miles, the AdBlue had run low and they ahd to take the vehicle to the dealer to get more put in. At just 7 gallons, they were forced to pay $316.99 or about $32 a gallon.
A bit of an update for you today, folks–today we’ve got footage of the new sweet ride from Mercedes, the Mercedes SLS AMG. We even know that this particular model is in Desert Gold.
This particular model was made for the Dubai Auto Show that took place about a week or two ago (one wonders how the crash of Dubai affected such an event) so it’s definitely a one of a kind system that looks just INCREDIBLE.
Seriously, they talk about this thing looking like a mirage and I believe it. After watching that video I still have a hard time believing I saw it, and I literally JUST SAW IT.
Another key takeaway about this model’s finish is that normally all the trim pieces would be chrome, but here? They’re replaced with black. This is probably for the best given that the car in question is a lighter color.
You’ll also get a look at the car’s interior, and I’ll say this much, inside looks just as nice as outside. So enjoy the footage of the Mercedes SLS AMG. However, for those of you hoping for footage of the all electric version, I don’t think you’ll get it here. There’s too much noise, really.
Today, folks, we’ve got some fantastic pieces to show you, and first on the menu is no less than video of a 2009 Mercedes SL 550 in action thanks to the crew out at FLDetours.
And today, that incredible 2009 Mercedes SL 550 is going to go bombing around the streets of New York City itself. Will it survive the trip? Or will it wind up in a Brooklyn chop shop by the end of the day? Let’s watch!
Some highlights from the video–it really is a SMALL car. The guy driving it is already complaining about leg room and suchlike, so you know he’s not getting a whole lot of room. That and it’s a Mercedes–they’re not exactly known for roomy cabins. They’re a smaller, sparer car–that’s how they get the kind of speed and luxury they do. In fact, looking in at that cabin suggests incredible luxury (that steering wheel look like it’s got wood accents to anyone else?), and the car definitely performs well.
It may be tiny, but it’s a Mercedes, and even a small Mercedes beats a lot of other cars.
I ask you, ladies and gentlemen (because I know both of you read this blog even if you keep mum about it much of the time) what exactly is the point of this new device I found from Mercedes-Benz called the Airscarf?
The Airscarf is actually about what it sounds like, in that it’s a heater port that’s up near your neck, and is designed to blow a continuous stream of warm air down and around your neck. Like a scarf made of air. Air. Scarf. Airscarf.
I mean, I understand that it’s Mercedes-Benz. It has a reputation for luxury surpassing most others and those it doesn’t surpass outright it’s in direct competition with. But a hot air port designed to blow hot air around your neck? I know from experience that, most of the time, I wind up shutting my car heater off after a few minutes anyway because that dry heat on my face gets almost painful after a while. But to have it blowing constantly around my neck?
That’s one gadget I’d love to be able to shut off after a while, Mercedes luxury or no.
I was actually about to write this one up myself when I saw that Chris had already tackled it. But what I can tell you is this…I really don’t think that car will EVER be available for sale in at least the United States.
Here are three reasons why you’ll likely never see this car on the road.
1. Local police departments need red light runner fines. No police department in its right mind would ever shoot itself in the foot by letting a car that brakes, automatically, at red lights onto the streets without a fight. Do you know how many millions of dollars have been spent on cameras to make sure red light runners are caught and promptly billed? There’s too much riding on this to not act!
2. Insurance companies need a reason to keep premiums jacked up. The only people with bigger and better lawyers than the criminal justice system is the insurance industry. If a car comes out that makes red light accidents a thing of the past, it will destroy insurance companies. Premiums will be all but required to drop in the face of plummeting accident rates, and this does horrible things to insurance companies’ bottom lines.
3. Massive investment is required to make them work. Not only does that car require a smart chip to determine when the light is about to change, it also requires revamped stoplights to transmit that information in the first place. Local municipalities will NEVER allow a car to hit the roads that not only removes revenue but also increases expenses, at the very least not without a fight.
So those three reasons are exactly why I wouldn’t look for the autobraking car any time soon.
The Frankfurt Motor Show offerings continue to get better and this ones directed right at you soccer moms out there with the need for speed. Pictured above is the 2010 MercedesE63 AMG Wagon. As you can see, the car is a station wagon but that doesn’t stop it from being absolutely fierce.
The car is said to feature a 6.3 liter 8 cylinder engine capable of a staggering 525hp. The only bummer? It will probably never see the light of day in North America.
Sure Mercedes has come forth in the past to say that they are in fact working on the 2010 SLS AMG but they haven’t released very many details or official images of the vehicle. Today however, they have done just that, as you can see above.
Under the hood the car is said to have a 6.3-liter V8 capable of 563HP and 480 pounds-per-feet of torque. Couple that with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and you get a sprint from 0 to 60 in just 3.7 seconds nad a top speed of 197.
We’ll have to wait until the Frankfurt Motor Show next week to hear more of the 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG.
