MINI selects 40 lucky UK test drivers for all electric vehicle

Recent reports have surfaced that let us know MINI has finally selected a group of people to test drive and lease their MINI E all electric vehicle. The group is by no means big, only 40, but they do get off a bit better than us Americans by only having to pay around $640 while we are stuck paying $850.

MINI says MINI E lease shipments will be completed sometime before this holiday season with most of the vehicles being delivered to places like Oxford and London.

Volvo Hybrid Double Deck Buses Unveiled

The new generation Volvo hybrid double deck buses made a memorable debut today at the Alexandra Palace, signaling the start of eco-friendly transportation that are tasked to render service to Arriva London.

A total of six Volvo B5L Hybrid Double Deck buses have recently entered service on Route 141 in the UK’s capital city and representatives from Volvo Bus and Arriva London, together with other stakeholders gathered to formally mark another historic occasion at the Alexandra Palace.

The new Hybrid Double Deck buses offer savings both in terms of fuel consumption and emissions. Evidence from test tack development and in service field trials with Arriva London show significant savings in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (C02) emissions as well as reduction in Nitrous Oxides and particulates.

GTbyCITROEN Concept Car Spotted in London

If you remember that impressive concept car, the GTbyCITROEN, and if you’re walking around in London these days then you might be lucky enough to spot the car on the roads.

The car has been spotted around some of the Capital’s most important landmarks as it was recreating part of the circuit featured in Gran Turismo. The car is about five meters long and just about a meter high and it comes with features like wide air intakes, rear air-diffuser, horizontal LED headlamps, gull wing doors and 21-inch aluminum wheels. Inside there’s steel and black finishes and hi-tech racing controls. Like what you read so far? Well the GTbyCITROEN will be available at UK’s Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 3 to July 5 so go right ahead and check it out!

Fly from London to Timbuktu With Parajet SkyCar

Timbuktu is not the hottest holiday destination of the year and Parajet SkyCar isn’t a new low-cost airline ready to take you there. This Parajet SkyCar is a car that can fly. And it will do fly from London to Timbuktu. Across the Channel and over France. Over France and then across the Gibraltar. And then is Africa, which should be a piece of cake.

The team will drive and fly, depending on the obstacles. The driving part looks achievable but it’s the flying over the mountains and straits that seems more than dangerous. The journey has started in London and the travelers want to get there in 40 days. The car has a biofuel Yamaha motorcyle engine which will let you drive it for 240 miles at a top speed of 108 mph. The flying is done with an airboat-type caged propeller and flying is done at 68 mph at 3,000 feet. Parachutes are included and the car can go as high as 15,000 feet although I heard it’s really cold up there.

Renault to Develop New Electric Cars

Renault is planning to develop new electric cars for the future. We’re going to have three models available by the 2012 Olympics in London. That’s the event where the French manufacturer will want to have the electric vehicles displayed.

We are looking at the electric version of the Kangoo MPV, the Megane sedan and a small city car based on a new platform. Renault plans to use these new models in London so they plan to set up charging station around London ready to replace batteries in about 5 minutes in case you failed to charge them overnight. You will get some 100 miles of range of each battery so the new electric Renault sound pretty good to me.

Gold Aston Martin DB7 Anyone?

While we’re looking for cheaper cars, cheaper gas and faster hybrids, some people could end up driving this Aston Martin DB7 made out of gold. Well not exactly made out of gold. A 24-carat gold-platinum alloy has been used for adding some resistance to those parts. I wouldn’t advise driving that car anywhere but your private highway. After all you should afford your private road since you are able to buy such a car. And don’t even think about public parking. People would definitely scratch some of that gold off!
