The Lotus Evora beat out 29 other cars to win the title of Performance Car of the Year for 2009 from Car Magazine. The list included marquee car brands like Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Porsche, giving you an idea of what this vehicle brings. All 30 cars went through subjective and objective testing on the driving roads of Great Britain. Among the highlights of the Lotus Evora during this event included the smooth navigation and steering.

And to refresh your memory, the Lotus Evora features a 280HP 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox.

Don’t look now but Lamborghini is planning to invade the luxury car industry or as reports would have it. The funny thing is that I have always looked up to the Lambo as a luxury car in itself, though on a different level. And if the Italian car manufacturer’s intent is for real, expect the big leap to give Porsche and Aston Martin to be in for some good competition for their concept luxury cars.

What will the luxury Lambo have to offer? Well here are some of the things to watch out. The luxury model will be equipped with an all wheel-drive transmission and a V10 engine. It will come in a four-door sedan based on the Estoque concept. On whether the rumor is for real or not, the idea is not far-fetched.

Lamborghini has long been known as been an automaker that focuses almost entirely on speed. Sure, there cars look nice but they aren’t exactly the most fuel efficient vehicles on the road.

That may all change very soon as recent rumors suggest that Lamborghini is working on a hybrid vehicle for 2015. Our sources tell us that the car itself could possibly be based on the Lamborghini Gallardo and have fuel saving technology coupled with a V10 or V12 engine.

Then again, with that big of an engine, it’s going to be hard for Lamborghini to get respectable numbers but it’s the effort that counts, right?

According to recent reports, Lamborghini has begun previewing their Reventon Roadster to select clients today. No confirmation has come from Lambo themselves but if previous rumors are to be believed the Reventon Roadster will be a drop-top convertible version of the Reventon supercar we see hit the market some time ago.

Spec wise again there is no official word, but if it features an engine similar to the regular Lamborghini Reventon we are are looking at at least 640HP, if not more.

Lamborghini had its most successful year on record last year but even it cannot escape the effects of an economic crisis. Lamborghini sales are down more than 30% for the first five months of the year and the company is anticipating things will stay this way until at least 2011. This news is somewhat beneficial for Lamborghini’s customers. Thanks in part to the recession, those who can still afford a Lamborghini will not have to wait as long for delivery compared to just a few months ago.

Speaking with Financial Times, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated that the company will be cutting its delivery time in half. Essentially, buyers who once had to wait up to a year to get their new cars will now only have to wait about six months. “We always have to sell less than demand,” Winkelmann told reporters. However, he acknowledged that the recession was hitting the luxury sector hard, particularly in its key U.S. market.

The call for cars to start applying some eco-friendly decency is on and Lamborghini happens to be one of them. For their part, the target is to cut their carbon emissions by 35% by 2015, a move that will surely be welcomed with open arms in the car industry.

Add to that they will be making their models lighter, adding another factor in efficient motoring as they take some load off the fuel consumption of their popular luxury cars. To top it all off, their manufacturing plants will be cutting emissions as well, turning to solar panels for better heating and lighting systems needed today.

The firm has already launched an updated Gallardo LP 560-4 with an 18% reduction in CO2 emissions by using direct injection to the engine.

1974 Lamborghini Wall Art

What do you do when your Lamborghini stalls on you (again) and you just don’t feel like having it repaired? How about hanging it on your wall as a piece of art? Richard Moriarty bought his 1974 Lamborghini Countach 10 years ago, paying a collector $60,000. Now, sick and tired of having it towed due to engine trouble, he decided to hang it on his wall instead.

That entailed a 70-ton crane, a five-man crew, about an hour to get it into the house, as well as a steel-reinforced wall with fasteners of half-inch-thick steel cable. In the end, the 1,000 lbs, engineless Italian sports car looks pretty cool on the wall.

One of the first things I would want to do after purchasing a Lamborghini would be to hop on the highway and see what it’s capable of. Unfortunately, the recent happenings in Oregon seem to put a damper on my plans.

Apparently, an Oregon State Trooper by the name of David Peterson was making his normal patrol when he came across 6 exotic sports cars doing over 100 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Those exotic sports cars included 4 Ferraris a Lamborghini and an Acura NSX.

After proceeding to pull over the drivers who claimed to be on an annual roadtrip with 14 other cars, Officer Peterson issued Class A traffic violations to each of them.

So remember kids, speeding isn’t good, even if your car is capable of speeds close to 200 MPH.

The Murcielago LP 670-4 will be equipped with lightweight wheels from Alcoa Auto Wheels. This was made official as Lamborghini has selected Alcoa which can help in reducing the 220 pound mass reduction of the vehicle. The forged aluminum wheels reduce un-sprung weight and contribute to the SV’s 100kg (220 lb.) mass reduction over the standard Murciélago.

“The new Murciélago SV is the product of a substantial cross-car weight reduction program and forged wheels are vital to meeting this goal,” explains David Yates, marketing manager for Alcoa Auto Wheels – Europe. “The engineering behind Alcoa’s forged aluminum wheels enables a 20 percent weight savings over a comparable cast aluminium wheel, benefiting handling and ride.”

The exclusive five twin-spoke design results in a superior metal structure that improves strength and durability, offering the opportunity to create very strong and lightweight wheels. The 18”x8.5” front wheel weighs just 19.6 lb. The 18”x13” rear wheel weighs just 27.2 lb. Lamborghini Estoque

The Lamborghini Estoque concept was undoubtably one of the more interesting concept cars at last year’s Paris Motor Show. The four-door, four-seat, four-wheeled drive Lambo supercar was just awaiting the go-aheads from the VW’s executive board. Now, however, according to Maurizio Reggiani, head of research and development at Lamborghini, Estoque has been put on the back burner for the time being.

The main reason appears to be faltering worldwide economy. The Estoque was scheduled to hit show rooms at the end of 2011 with a price tag around £150,000. Perhaps when economy picks up again we can see Lamborghini continue the Estoque project.

It seems that new pics of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 650-4 Roadster that we first learned about last month have hit the internet.

Featuring a 6.5 liter V12 engine capable of 650 horse power and 660Nm of torque that gives the car a 0-62 mph of 3.4 seconds nad a top speed of 205 mph.

Oh yeah, did I mention only 50 of these will be made?

What you see above are the final workings of Romanian designer, lulian Bumbu.

As you could proably already tell from its name and looks, Bumbu incorprated styles that Lamborghini is already known for while combining them with insect body inspired elements. Since it is a Lambo, the carbon fiber body panels and Gallardo power train are to be expected.

“I tried to apply this tipe of organic movements and translate them into Lamborghini’s style so that when you see the car, you can immediately recognize it as a Lambo,” comments Bumbu

If the Insecta were to be produced it would have a theoretical length of 4,300, height of 1,000 mm, width of 2,000 mm, and wheel base of 2,650 mm.

Now who wouldn’t notice a Range Rover when you see and hear one? Range Rover, one of the great luxury SUVs ever to come out, has been made even sweeter with the Concept802 style. Concept802 is a styling company based in the UK. The main focus of Concept802 is in styling luxury vehicles.

The Platinum R wide body kit consists of the wide arch kit, side skirts, front and rear bumpers. In addition a front grille, side vent and unique Concept802 exhaust tips are fitted. A carbon fiber rear diffuser is included in what Concept802 believes to be the first exterior application of this material on a Range Rover Sport.

The Range Rover Sport is only the first car to be given treatment by Concept802 but it won’t be the last. Later brands like Aston Martin, Porsche and Lamborghini will be styled as well.
