The Jaguar Land Rover Auto Trade Company Ltd. in China has recalled over 214 Discovery 3 cars due to defective brakes and engines. About 1,069 Discovery 3 cars have been reportedly sold in the mainland between June 2007 and May 2008 where the issue was traced to a problem in the diesel engine that may catch fire at the worst possible scenario.

For their part, Jaguar Land Rover has announced that they will be replacing the defective parts of all issued models free of charge. Car owners who have purchased this model should immediately bring their car to the nearest maintenance center for check-up and possible replacement if necessary.

Make room for another luxury car in the market as the 2010 Jaguar XJ has been revealed. Similar to the tradition that Jaguar has brought to the world of luxury cars, the 2010 Jaguar XJ offers a mix of seductive look and performance stemming from the light weight aluminum body that it now comes in.

The 2010 Jaguar XJ will be available starting December for $72,500.

The complete lineup:

• 5.0-liter naturally aspirated XJ and XJL (385hp) with a $72,500 and 79,500 MSRP, respectively
• 5.0-liter XJ and XJL Supercharged (470hp) with a $87,500 and $90,500 MSRP, respectively

Among the new bumper crop of vehicles out in the market, there are certain features that people would love to change among them. But if there are two cars which have the least number of attributes that potential car buyers would change, two familiar brands popped out above the rest. The two car brands are Porsche and Ford which topped the 2009 Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVA). The IVAs are based on owners’ ratings of their new 2009 model year cars and trucks across 15 key vehicle attributes.

“In today’s economy, car buyers take many factors into consideration – styling, safety features, fuel economy and more,” says George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. “IVA winners deliver the most of what consumers are really looking for in their vehicles.”

The selection doesn’t seem that easy. Most cars offer great features while others leave it up to the buyers to modify. The Porsche and Ford Motor vehicles are equipped with one of the common and yet unique features which some would leave if the survey is any indication.

But basing it on tradition, these two car models have lived up to their name and such a selection should not really be surprising. For 2009, the top-rated premium brand is Porsche, outscoring Buick and Jaguar for the most ideal premium vehicle brand honors. The top-rated mainstream brand is Ford, outscoring Mercury for top mainstream brand results. Porsche and Ford were also the highest scoring premium and mainstream brands in the 2008 IVA rankings.

Tata Motors kicks off one leg of its new found business, launching the Jaguar and the Land Rover in India. The re-branding prowess of Tata Motors starts by unveiling the two luxury car brands in Indian waters, launching three models of each brand.

Jaguar will be unveiling the XF, XFR and the XKR sedans while Land Rover will start its business with Discovery 3, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover sport utility vehicles. Being fully imported models, all the six cars carry a heavy price tag starting Rs 63 lakh and going up to Rs 92 lakh.

“The launch of Jaguar and Land Rover is something that is quite memorable in the context of our history and heritage of Tata Motors. This is a company that belongs to us and we are proud of it.”

While the economy is still in turmoil for most parts of the world, no sales forecasts were unveiled by Tata Motors just yet. Right now, all they can do is stay optimistic, similar to what most business are banking on today.

Jaguar XJ

In its 2009 Buyer’s Guide, the Environmental Transport Association named the Jaguar XJ Britain’s greenest luxury car. It is the third consecutive year that the Jaguar XJ 2.7 Diesel has received this prestigious award. The criteria considered by the ETA in its review of 1,300 vehicles include fuel efficiency, emissions, power, and engine noise.

The all-new Jaguar XJ will be revealed in London in early July 2009, with first customer deliveries occurring in early 2010. It’s the first Jaguar to utilize the aerospace-inspired aluminum body architecture. The automaker’s Gen III petrol and diesel engines are available in the new Jaguar XJ.

The 500th Tesla Roadster was awarded to a New Jersey based Philanthropist, a milestone that the electric vehicle manufacturer is sure to take note of. The 500th customer is Martin Tuchman, chairman of The Tuchman Foundation who plans to charge his Roadster partly with solar energy thanks to photovoltaic panels he helped install throughout his hometown of Kingston, NJ.

“My Roadster drives like a dream — it’s amazing,” said Tuchman, a former automotive engineer and owner of a 1967 Mercedes 250 and a 1993 Jaguar convertible. Tuchman converted his 1937 Chris-Craft into an electric boat so he could take it on nearby Lake Carnegie, which prohibits gas-powered boats. He plans to use his Roadster as his primary commuter car.

This news comes in the midst of the planned opening of their New York Store. Tesla will also soon be opening stores in Chicago, London, Seattle, Miami, Washington, Monaco and Munich. Tesla will begin deliveries in Europe this summer.

Car lovers who are crazy about well-kept vintage cars may very well want to check out the Knysna Motor Show. This event was made possible to help out charities and the Knysna Hospice. Over 120 vintage cars were on hand, including four Minis and four Morgan sports cars. This year the Morgan marque racks up a century of production and the Mini celebrates 50 years of motoring history

The cars showcased names that are legendary in the annals of motoring – Triumph, Austin Healey, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Citroen vied for attention with the likes of Morgan, MG, Austin, Morris, Jaguar and Ford. Almost a third of the vehicles at the Knysna Motor Show were the much-loved MG. A total of 33 MGs covered a range of six different models from 1947 onwards.

Tata has plans to take Land Rover and Jaguar into the Indian market, hoping to tap a whole new customer base. When Tata purchased Jaguar-Land Rover, they promised that none of the vehicles from either brand would be built in India but, how that works into the new plans to tackle the Indian market with its range of luxury cars and SUVs is anybody’s guess. Importing the cars will certainly make them even more expensive on the Indian market.

Jaguar Land Rover CEO, David Smith, commented on the importance of the Indian market to the company’s competitive position in the global market. “We are delighted to be formally entering the Indian market, an economy which is still growing appreciably, and able to offer our premium products to a whole new group of customers,” said Smith. “It is an important strategic move for Jaguar Land Rover and will enable us to realise our competitive potential in this significant market.”

It looks like the rumored sale of Volvo is once again in the works as reports have it that the company has moved closer to selling the Swedish auto brand. Ford, grappling with the deepest downturn in U.S. auto industry sales in 27 years, is considering a sale of the business. It has already sold the rest of its premier auto group, Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover.

“We’ve had contact with a number of parties who’ve expressed interest concerning the future of Volvo. Ford’s been pleased with the number and quality of those parties,” John Gardiner, Ford’s European director of strategic communications said, citing a message sent to Volvo employees earlier on Wednesday.

“We’ve had preliminary discussions to determine the level of interest in the Volvo business that they have and we’re now talking in more detail to those parties about the future for Volvo,” he added.

Last month a source with direct knowledge of the matter said Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile had held talks with Volvo cars. Citigroup and JPMorgan are advising Ford.

With the current economic recession the car industry is finding times are pretty tough and Jaguar’s position within the industry is similarly poor, however they have plans to introduce a new roadster which many think will be called the XE. Tata corroborated that development of the roadster was underway is currently in the early stages of design sign-off.

“We need to emerge with something shiny and new, which is why we are re-prioritizing the roadster right now,” Tata said. “I’m highly excited about what I see.” Tata’s verification of the car as a roadster conflicts somewhat with the expected derivation of the XE from the R-Coupe concept from 2001. The F-Type concept from 2000 was a roadster, though the new car isn’t expected to share any styling with that concept.

Closing a sale is one thing but it is the after-service of auto companies that is important for most consumers who end up buying new cars today. While they may have secured the car after paying for it, available assistance after the sale is equally important since they are looking for the customer support services to help them in cases of maintenance and troubleshooting issues arising from thereon.

The 29th annual study examined satisfaction among car owners who visit a service department for maintenance or repair work. Rankings, based on dealer performance during the first three years of ownership, were determined by service quality, service initiation, service advisor, service facility and vehicle pickup.

Results revealed that the highest-performing brands retained more than 80 percent of their customer maintenance and repair dollars within their dealer network, compared to less than 60 percent for lowering-performing brands.

Lexus ranked highest with dealer service, moving up from fourth position in 2008. Jaguar, BMW, Cadillac and Acura helped round out the top five, while all GM brands ranked above industry standards.

Here is a bright moment that the British auto industry will really enjoy. China has placed an order amounting to $1.3 billion on 10,000 Land Rovers and 3,000 Jaguars for the next three years. The deal is worth a much needed AUD$1.3 billion dollars and was secured by a Chinese trade delegation during a recent visit to the UK.

The timing couldn’t be better, with economic pressure having forced JLR into a variety of cost-cutting measures in recent times.

Around 2000 jobs have been cut over the past few months, with the remaining 12,000 workers currently in negotiations to secure their employment – albeit at reduced rates.

It’s good news for Tata Group and for the motoring public in general, especially as far as Jaguar is concerned.

In an effort to enhance the riding luxury for the 2010 Jaguar XK series, Amerigon Incorporated has been commissioned to design the Climate Control Seat(TM) (CCS(TM)) system for the new sports coupes and convertibles set for release this summer.

The new heated and cooled seat feature is standard on all XK Portfolio derivatives worldwide. The XK Portfolio is a new derivative in the XK range, introduced at 2010MY, featuring very high levels of equipment and a 5.0 naturally aspirated engine.

The feature is optional on other derivatives, although some markets have chosen to offer it as standard equipment. An example is the U.S. where the heated and cooled seat feature is standard on all 2010MY XKs.

The Jaguar XK-Series features all-new V8 engines delivering more power and performance with greater efficiency, even more dramatic looks, interior enhancements like CCS, advanced lightweight aluminum body structure and a wider range of models.
