Who said that you absolutely need a key to start the engine of your Chrysler? With that Peapod prototype you can have your iPhone or iPod touch play the role of an ignition key. EV’s brochure says that the company has an application which will do all the work for you. For those of you still interested in starting your car the old fashioned way keys will still work so you won’t have to buy an iPhone to drive your car. What do you think about the whole concept? Now this here is a perfect example of just how far technology is progressing. Showcased in the above video is a modder who decided he wanted to control his Mazda RX-8 from his iPod touch.

Not only can he unlock the doors, lock them again, and pop the trunk, he also has the ability to start the engine and monitor it’s telemetry all from the handheld device. Amazing. 

This is all done with a heavily geared up Mazda RX-8 and a web application used on the iPod touch. Check out the video for the insanity it all of its gloriness.

It looks like BMW has moved onto less convential ways of marketing their 2009 Z4, this time on Apple’s App Store.

Featured in BMW’s Z4 iPhone app is the ability to customize and create a 2009 BMW Z4, and then drive it around using it’s tires to paint on a virtual canvas.

The app is available now in the App Store weighing in at 50MB, for free. However, KickingTires notes that the app is labeled Lite, which means a more robust app may be in the pipeline.
