1394 Automotive Holds Automotive Technology Seminar

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

1394 Automotive will be holding an Automotive Technology seminar this April 30, to strengthen its hold as one of the leaders in global standard in-vehicle networking. The 1394 Trade Association will sponsor an Automotive Technology Seminar April 30, featuring presentations by industry leaders and the latest products and innovations.

The seminar begins at 1 pm Thurs., April 30 at the Dearborn Inn Marriott. It will provide the industry with a comprehensive view of the 1394 Automotive standard and use cases for the vehicle.

Topics to be covered include network applications; standards overview; interconnect system solutions; 1394 device technology; software; testing/diagnostics; and a system overview. For more information about how to attend visit http://www.1394ta.org/Events/Q22009_TechSeminar.html. Registration will be available on site on the day of the seminar.

“Auto manufacturers can’t afford multiple networks that will be obsolete in a few years after initial platform launch,” said Max Bassler, chairman of the 1394 Trade Association. “They want a single customizable in-vehicle network that will allow multiple ECUs, including driver assistance, navigation, Internet use and high quality audio/video modules to communicate seamlessly. Outside connections to the world will interact and communicate over the 1394 Auto in-vehicle network.”

Bosch Preaches Green at 2009 SAE World Congress

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Bosch promotes its green initiative as an automotive expert at the SAE World Congress where it will showcase its various expertise and technical programs, partaking in the Earth Day Green Ride-n-Drive event and exhibiting in the main showroom. Additionally, for the fourth consecutive year, Bosch will sponsor the show’s final event, the banquet afterglow, which brings together industry leaders.

“As the Tier 1 Strategic Partner, we are proud to support Honda as the host company, SAE International and the industry, in continuing the dialogue on green mobility, and fostering collaboration to bring new technologies to the market,” said Peter Marks, chairman, president and CEO, Robert Bosch LLC. “SAE 2009 World Congress is a great venue for Bosch to share our expertise and highlight our commitment to providing innovative and quality technologies that help protect the environment, reduce energy consumption and emissions.”

Bosch also will participate in the Earth Day Green Ride-n-Drive on April 22, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. along Civic Center Drive and Atwater at the back of Cobo Center. The event allows invited guests — including industry and government leaders and members of the media — to experience first-hand, powertrain technologies available for production, as well as those that will be available in the future.

A variety of Bosch technologies will be on display at its exhibit, Booth number 1236, on the SAE 2009 World Congress show floor. The exhibit will also feature a start/stop simulator and an exhaust aftertreatment demonstration.

Automakers Launch Fight Against Online Fraud

Friday, April 10th, 2009

There are a lot of things you can purchase online these days and cars are included. And while technology has made it easier for the modern consumer, it has also become an opportunity for crooks to take advantage of. For that matter, key automotive industry leaders announced today they are forming an alliance to address the growing threat of fraud in the online private party used car marketplace. ‘F.A.I.R.’ (Fraud Abatement through Industry Response) will host their first one-day roundtable event, including a public forum for Q & A, in Los Angeles on April 23, 2009 at the historic Petersen Automotive Museum.

Forty-four million used cars were sold in the US last year; over half of which were sold online. During the same period, Internet fraud rose 33 percent, according to a recent F.B.I./IC3 report. With consumer confidence at an all time low, the threat of increased risk could dampen online sales and further harm the ailing automotive industry if steps are not immediately taken to address this challenge.

“The for sale by owner market is being choked by fraud,” said Reza Bundy, CEO of Mota.com, a partner in the F.A.I.R. initiative. “The occurrence of fraud and financial loss in the peer-to-peer space is increasing and together our intent is to create standards that will ensure fair and square transactions for American consumers.”
