Hyundai Motor America has announced lowered prices for its 2010 Elantra Touring 5-door compact cars, an ideal entry-level car that is sportier for the motorists looking for cost-efficient cars today. The Hyundai Elantra actually won the 2009 JD Power Initial Quality Survey for compact cars and is expected to be at dealers by the third quarter of this year.

Here is the list of their retail pricing

• GLS M/T – 5 Speed: $15,995
• GLS A/T – 4 Speed: $17,195
• SE M/T – 5 Speed M/T with B&M Sport shifter: $18,995
• Touring A/T – 4 Speed A/T $19,795

Among the new equipment included in the 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring include a new trim and roof rails. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows, heated mirrors, power door locks, remote keyless entry with alarm, four-way adjustable driver’s seat and plenty of storage compartments, including a cooled glovebox.

Hyundai Automotive Groups has announced that approximately 50,000 cars will be recalled due to a light switch problem. The car models affected include that of vehicles produced between September and November of 2006.

Hyundai Automotive Group consists of Hyundai Motor Co. (005380.SE) and Kia Motors Corp. (000270.SE), which together form the world’s fifth-largest car maker by sales.

“Brake lights of some of Hyundai and Kia models were found not to function when drivers stepped on brakes due to the switch flaws,” the ministry said in a statement.

Hyundai will recall a total of 37,794 cars of five models and Kia a combined 10,842 vehicles of five models, the statement said.

The cars subject to be recalled include: new Santa Fe, Veracruz sport utility vehicles, new Avante, new Sonata and new Grandeur sedans from Hyundai and Grand Carnival, new Carnival, new Sportage, new Carens and Sorento SUVs from Kia Motors, it said.

In a move to help fight recession and entice new car buying, the South Korean government has announced a tax break for all motorists who replace their aging cars. The strategy and finance ministry said the measure, worth up to 2.5 million won (US$1,900), would be available to drivers who trade in a car that is more than nine years old. The incentive, which will run from May to December, was announced as local auto makers feel the bite of the global economic downturn.

South Korean car manufacturers, including Hyundai Motor, have reduced their output due to slumping sales while Ssangyong Motor, the smallest automaker in the country, is under court receivership to avoid bankruptcy.

The tax break will come from reducing purchasing and registration taxes by 70 percent, officials said. They estimated it could potentially affect 548,000 vehicles – 32.6 percent of the total 16.8 million registered in the country.

The government is also considering providing more liquidity to auto finance companies as part of efforts to stimulate demand.

The Super Bowl may be over but it looks like Hyundai Motors is not showing any signs of slowing down as far as its advertising plans are concerned. In fact, Hyundai will be power Jack Bauer of “24” with its 2009 North American Car of the Year, the Genesis sedan.

“Our partnership with FOX and its hit show ‘24′ provides a tremendous 360-degree platform to showcase our new flagship, the Genesis sedan,” said Chris Perry, director of marketing communications, Hyundai Motor America. “The unique in-show integration ensures exposure when the audience is most involved with the TV series, watching Jack Bauer in his perilous episodes, but the extensions allow us to build a relationship with consumers in the real world.”

Many fans were eager to see what the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe had to offer at the Chicago Auto Show. However, while that is to be expected, Hyundai made another announcement that of which was the team-up with Rhys Millen Racing and Red Bull Energy Drink to campaign the car in the high-energy sport of drift racing this year.

Hyundai unveiled its motorsports program in the U.S. with the help of drift champion Rhys Millen, who will fabricate and race a 550-horsepower Genesis Coupe in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Formula Drift Professional Drifting Championship and at select Redline Time Attack series events in 2009.

“Today’s announcement puts the Genesis Coupe into three great motorsports series,” said John Krafcik, acting president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. “We like to refer to the Genesis Coupe as the sinister sibling to the North American Car of the Year, the Genesis sedan, and we look forward to Rhys harnessing every ounce of energy in the Coupe as he campaigns it.”

People who have been aching to find out the cost of purchasing the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe finally got their wish as Hyundai Motors America officially announced the pricing for the new Genesis Coupe.

Pricing started at $22,000 for a well-equipped 210-horsepower, 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine 2.0T model and $25,000 for the 306-horsepower, 3.8-liter, V6 engine model. Genesis Coupe will begin arriving at Hyundai dealerships later in the month.

“Genesis sedan set a new benchmark for the premium sedan segment and we think Genesis Coupe will do the same in the sport coupe arena,” said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motors America president and chief executive officer. “From our 30-mpg 2.0T with its low-pressure, intercooled, four-cylinder turbo, to the 3.8-liter Track model with 306 horsepower and Brembo(R) braking system, Genesis Coupe offers a wide range of powertrain and performance choices for driving enthusiasts of all stripes.”

Digital HD Radio is the latest technology that Hyundai Motors America has added to their line of vehicles. The HD Radio system allows drivers to receive digital transmissions from local radio stations with crystal-clear sound quality. HD Radio technology also allows radio stations to broadcast alternative programming on the same frequency, and this programming can be received with Hyundai’s HD Radio receiver.

“HD Radio technology is another example of how Hyundai enhances the in-vehicle experience for our customers,” said Scott Margason, national manager, Product Development, Hyundai Motor America. “With our state-of-the-art audio systems, Hyundai is quickly becoming an in-vehicle entertainment leader.”
