Toyota launches its first internal combustion hybrid lift truck, GENEO-HYBRID, an 8,000 lb. counterbalanced lift truck that combines a 2.5-liter diesel engine, electric motor and nickel-metal hydride battery to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 50%. This new offering from Toyota Industrial Corporation will make its debut in the Japanese market this December.

As businesses look to reduce fuel costs and decrease CO2 emissions, Toyota Hybrid technology offers a practical, proven solution by capitalizing on the advantages of existing fuel sources and infrastructure. The new GENEO-HYBRID lift truck will cut CO2 emissions and fuel consumption in half while delivering the operational performance of an equivalent conventional diesel-powered lift truck. The result is a lift truck that provides both improved environmental performance and economic benefits for customers due to lower fuel costs.

The HEVDC was developed over a period of two years, with the final phase, the installation of a dedicated chassis dynamometer for hybrid and electric vehicle testing, which will be completed in March. FEV invested approximately $8 million into development of the HEVDC, which became fully operational with the installation of the vehicle chassis dyno.

The HEVDC, which is the North American part of FEV’s worldwide competence in hybrid & EV, is an evolution of FEV’s extensive development efforts in the areas of hybrid and electric vehicles, and is fully capable of facilitating the development of all propulsion technologies related to tomorrow’s vehicles. Enabling technology includes:

• Hybrid powertrain test cells
• Hybrid/EV transmission test rigs
• Electric Motor test rigs
• Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Chassis Dyno
• Electric Charging Station for PHEVs and EVs

FEV anticipates an increase in staffing to accommodate the activity level of the HEVDC, including the addition of highly specialized engineering and technical personnel.

Ford is taking note of their competitors and it looks like its own hybrid version, the 2010 Ford Fusion is going to give them a run for their money. From the looks and reviews gathered from this latest hyped auto from Ford, you would think it was a fresh concept coming out of the books of hybrid development of cars.

The 2010 Ford Fusion seems to cover everything from the outer to the internal features and one thing you just got to love about it is the new 3-D gauge cluster with turquoise accent lighting.

Expect the 2010 Ford Fusion model to be in the ranks of the leading hybrid cars vying for a fair share of the hybrid market. If the initial looks are impressive, wait until actual car owners get a chance to drive it out in the streets.

For 2010, the Fusion offers a three-engine lineup, which includes one four-cylinder and two V-6s. The base 2.5-liter I-4 engine, available at the S, SE and SEL trim levels, delivers 175 horsepower, a 15 horsepower leap over the 2009 model.
