Volkswagen of America has issued a voluntary recall for about 13,500 vehicles equipped with DSG transmissions. Apparently a faulty temperature sensor in the said DSG transmission is reportedly the problem. Failure of the temperature sensor could result in illuminated warning lamps in the dashboard, and in rare instances the transmission may shift into neutral.

The recall affects models like the Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, and Eos built between September 2008 and August 2009. Affected owners are encouraged to call local Volkswagen retailers to schedule an appointment to have their vehicle inspected and repaired.

iMotor has recently gotten their hands on Volkswagen’s new Scirocco R and have released pictures of the beautiful car for all to see.

The Scirocco R will feature a 2.0 TFSI 265 hp engine, 6 speed or DSG transmission and a price tag of £26,000. Other than that it will have the XDS differential featured in the new 2010 GTI, tuned suspension, and custom breaks.

Too bad this thing will only hit showrooms in the UK sometime in 2010 for £26,000.

VW GTi

The sporty new Golf GTI from Volkswagen comes with the current model’s 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected four, but it is upgraded to 210 hp from 200. That’s not class-leading, but smooth power delivery in a well-tuned package has made the GTI a favorite for years. While U.S. models will likely stay at 130 mph, the GTI is capable of speeds up to 149 mph. Expect 0–60 to be reached in the upper fives.

Buyers will be able to choose between a a six-speed dual-clutch transmission that blips the throttle ever so sweetly on downshifts or a six-speed manual.  The U.S. will get the GTI in late 2009, in both three- and five-door configurations.
