Switzer Performance has been around for a while and we already know what they’re capable of but their latest milestone is quite the feat — It was announced today that a Switzer tuned Nissan GT-R has hit 191 MPH during a standing mile. Now, this may not seem that fast but it is a record speed for a GT-R in that short of a distance.

For those who don’t know the Switzer GT-R has 700 HP to the wheels so it’s no surprise that it was able to reach such a high speed in just a mile.

I don’t know about you guys but I have a need for speed that’s why when I saw the video of Stillen’s Nissan GT-R sprinting from 0-60 in 2.9 seconds (included above) I just had to report it.

Stillen managed to pull a full 620HP from the car’s 2 turbochargers along with reducing the weight significantly thanks to a bunch of carbon fiber and lightweight seats.

Don’t expect to see this tuning kit made available for purchase as this is strictly a track car although I’d love to take it for a quick spin on the highway.

2009 Nissan GT-R

The 2009 Nissan GT-R is not your grandmother’s Sunday vehicle. With an MSRP that starts at over $76,000 and a V-6 twin turbocharged engine, this GT-R (formerly known as the “Skyline”) is meant to compete with the likes of the Porsche 911 and the Chevy Corvette.  The goal of making the car in the first place, according to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn was to see if Nissan could make a competitive, profitable vehicle to put up against the Porsche 911 for $70,000. Two trim levels are offered; a base level and a premium level.

The base model comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, a rear spoiler, electronically adjustable suspension, leather upholstery, power front seats, aluminum-trimmed pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Bluetooth, keyless entry and start up, automatic climate control, a six-speaker sound system, XM Satellite Radio, a multifunction driver-configurable information monitor, an in-dash Compact Flash card reader and a navigation system with a 30-gigabyte hard drive, and 9.4 gigabytes of which can be used for audio storage. Will it be able to compete with a Porsche? MSRP on a 2009 Porsche 911 is between $75,000 and $139,000. So far, it looks like Nissan has a shot at being successful.

Sure the current GT-R is fast, but when you think supercar Nissan isn’t really up in the ranks with manufacturers like Lamborghini and Ferrari, but that all may change. Entitled the GT-R V-Spec, this new model boasts specs high enough to give the Italian manufacturers a run for their money.

Sporting a full 478bhp engine coupled with the newly redesigned chassis making use of carbon fiber technologies, the GT-R V-Spec isn’t a car you’d want to go up against in a race. Also featuring 20-inch alloy wheels wrappin in Dunlop tires, carbon ceramic brakes, and Bilstein electronic dampers.’

While nothing is confirmed, word has it the car is set to be unveiled at the Chicago Motor Show and when unveiled to the public will have a price range of £80,000 or about $117,000.
