The 2010 Ford Taurus, currently in production, will be equipped with selected Goodyear tires as part of its original equipment fitments. Among the Goodyear tires selected for use with the new and improved 2010 Ford Taurus include the Goodyear Eagle RS-A, Assurance ComforTred and Eagle F1 SuperCar.

The Ford Taurus Limited, standard tires will be the Goodyear Eagle RS-A in size P255/45R19 while another Goodyear tire, the P235/55R18 Assurance ComforTred will don the new Taurus in its SEL version. The Ford Taurus SHO will come with the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar tire in a P245/45R20 size.

In what is expected to be a decision related to the current economic crisis, Goodyear Tire & Rubber company has announced that it will be closing its tire manufacturing plant in Las Pinas, Philippines to address the uncompetitive manufacturing capacity globally.

Apparently the cost reduction here is aimed at the storage facilities which are expectedly not meeting the sales. The trend is something we see familiar in most companies and while this is a big shot in the arm for the Philippines, Goodyear will continue to serve the country in terms of service to wholesale, retail and original equipment customers.

“Due to high costs compared to other plants in the region, tires produced in the Las Pinas plant are not competitive in the marketplace,” said Pierre E. Cohade, president of Goodyear’s Asia-Pacific Region.

GoodYear Tire and Rubber Company has announced that they will be adjusting operations to properly align production capacity to a continuously declining market. From a continuous operating schedule, GoodYear will shift to a five-day, three shift operation starting July 6 in Union City, Tennessee.

This adjustment comes in the light of a ratification agreement between the United Steel Workers and the local government which allows schedule changes. 550,000 associates will receive buyout packages as part of the change.

Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tire companies. It employs approximately 71,000 people and manufactures its products in more than 60 facilities in 25 countries around the world.

Tire pressure is important. While many would prefer larger tire pressure gauges, be reminded that they can play a vital role in the force that tires have to deal with, especially if vehicular weight is uneven. If a tire cannot withstand the pressure, chances are it may explode and provide serious hazards such as accidents especially for cars that are running.

“Checking tires for proper inflation and tread condition is one of the most critical – and easiest – maintenance procedures for a consumer,” said Joey Viselli, Goodyear brand director. “It doesn’t take much time or sophisticated equipment. Drivers can check their tires by themselves, or any of our retail outlets would be happy to provide the service.”

Goodyear recommends that motorists should check tire inflation at least monthly or before a long trip. Tires should be inflated to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations printed on the vehicle door placard or in the owner’s manual, not the maximum limit stamped on a tire sidewall.

Goodyear Tire and Rubber company has announced plans of shutting down its Amiens, France plant due help reduce cost in the grueling economy that it now faces. Similar to other problems that the car industry has been experiencing, it will not be surprising to note if they are victims as well of the growing pains of inefficient sales performance that needs to be addressed by cutting off under-performing branches.

“This action is a result of the plant’s uncompetitive costs. Reaching a union agreement to modernize the operation proved impossible,” said Serge Lussier, Goodyear’s Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) vice president of manufacturing. “Due to high costs and weak industry demand, the consumer tires produced there are uncompetitive in the marketplace.”

With this development, approximately 1,200 employees at the most will be affected by its closure, adding another issue on the rising problem of unemployment . There were no announcements on financial settlement with the soon to be laid off workers although there is sure to be one as mandated by law.

With all businesses being hit hard by the down economy, a familiar tire brand is shaking off the cobwebs of the looming crisis and announced their focus for weathering the economic constraints that are making businesses crawl for survival.

In his address at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s 2009 Annual Shareholder Meeting today, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert J. Keegan said he remains confident in Goodyear’s ability to drive performance during challenging economic conditions and emerge in a position of competitive strength.

“It is very clear to us that given the challenging 2009 economic environment, our intense focus on the Seven Strategic Drivers remains a solid strategic foundation,” Keegan said.

“As we address our market challenges head-on, we are not creating a new path. Rather we will be taking a proven path to the next level.”

Keegan identified three specific areas that he said will keep the company on its path toward success. These are:

• Top line – encompassing new product leadership, building core brand strength and leveraging Goodyear’s industry-leading distribution network;
• Lowering costs – aggressively aligning Goodyear’s cost structure with today’s lower industry volumes; and
• Managing for cash – focusing on the strength of Goodyear’s balance sheet and generating funds to reinvest in the business.

Keegan said his confidence is strengthened by the support of Goodyear’s dealers and their enthusiasm about the company’s global plans to launch more than 50 new products in 2009.

Among these new products is Goodyear’s Assurance Fuel Max tire, which is now available at Goodyear retailers. Assurance Fuel Max provides 27 percent less rolling resistance than the standard Assurance tire. This equates to a 4 percent improvement in highway fuel economy.

In case you missed it, there was a daring truck driver who save the lives of two girls in a highway accident last October. The gallant hero was Jorge Orozco Sanchez. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has honored Colorado truck driver Jorge Orozco Sanchez with the 26th Goodyear North American Highway Hero Award, in recognition of his effort in saving two young girls after a horrific highway accident last October.

Orozco Sanchez was named the 2008 Highway Hero here at a special awards banquet during the Mid-America Trucking Show. With the award, he also received a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond, a plaque and a specially designed ring.

Founded in 1983, the Goodyear North America Highway Hero program recognizes professional truck drivers and the often unnoticed, life-saving rescues and roadside assistance they provide as their jobs take them across North America.
