The Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition racing car will finally be made available come January, a concept race car that was initially shown at the SEMA 2008 in Las Vegas. It comes equipped with the TDI Cup Edition Kit which includes a front bumper, side skirts and rear valance. The Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition will also feature a 2.0-liter clean diesel engine loaded with 140HP paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Other notable enhancements include an 18” Charleston wheels with performance all-season tires, sports seats and a multi-function steering wheel that features paddle shifters when equipped with the DSG transmission.

Suzuki has been quiet as of late but once they came out with their Suzuki Equator Pickup, a compact but tall wagon, is the best-selling vehicle in Japan, where it accounts for more sales than all Suzuki cars sold in the United States, all the attention has been shifted back to them.

The company, known here more for motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and outboard boat engines, is the world’s 12th-largest automaker, with annual global sales exceeding those of Mazda, BMW, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz or even the Dodge division of Chrysler LLC.

To show its activity-oriented customers just how cool those Equators can be, Suzuki worked recently with three leading truck and off-roading magazines to customize and modify the new pickup. Each truck can serve as inspiration to customize any pickup.

4-Wheel & Off-Road, which selected the Equator as its “4×4 of the Year,” focused on the vehicle’s extreme capacity with its Project Super Equator, with lifted suspension, beadlock wheels, custom front bumper and Warm winch.

Off-Road magazine’s Project Two Face was conceived to highlight versatility, showing how a single Equator can be a 4×4 rock crawler, or shifted into rear-wheel drive, a high-speed desert runner. The changes involve suspension, tires, lighting and a skid-plate style front bumper.

Most new cars being unveiled in the market today are bragging one feature after another. Some are claiming all-power features, suspensions and engines. The 2009 Mazda RX-8 R3 for its part is banking on a unique engine concept where the usual engine pistons run spirally rather than the traditional up and down pump.

Instead of pistons that go up and down, a rotary engine has — in the case of the RX-8, anyway — three triangular rotors that spin around inside a cylinder. In a regular engine, when the spark plug ignites gas and fuel, it sends the piston down. In a rotary, it sends the rotors spinning.
