Just because buyers of sportscars are usually wealthy doesn’t mean they like spending a fortune at the pump. Luxury car makers like Lamborghini and Ferrari have made note of this announcing their intentions to release some hybrid sportscars, but what about other automakers? Well, the latest rumor says that Maserati will be the next to sign on.
Make note that both Ferrari and Maserati are owned by Fiat so the chances of some hybrid Ferrari components appearing in Maseratis are highly likely, if this rumor is ture of course.
I just wonder how much these are going to cost.

You’d think it was a super model or the body of someone famous getting all that attention, but no, it’s just the body work of a Ferrari 458 Italia. Actually, it is someone famous. It’s Ferrari after all! Via Twitter.

According to Ferrari, they might just cave in and actually make a V6 powered sports car, rather than the more powerful (and awesome sounding) V8 engines they make. This comes straight from the top Ferrari boss Amedeo Felisa. A V6 would cost less, be more economical, but Ferrari is Ferrari, and they rarely compromise on performance. Actually, they never compromise on performance.

Ferrari is set to introduce one of the most anticipated cars in years, the 458 Italia, the successor to the F430 and also one of the most perfected Ferraris of all time — the 458 Italia is as fast as the Enzo in almost every sense.
Now Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa has confirmed that at least three new models are in development, one of which we speculate will be the track version of the 458, call it the 458 Scuderia. The other, as confirmed by the CEO, is the convertible “Spider” version of the 458, and the third… the successor to the Enzo.

Pininfarina has been designing Ferrari’s for decades, and one of the more iconic designs was the 1970 Ferrari Modulo concept, unveiled at the Geneva Auto show in 1970. Now, Pininfarina’s Paolo Martin has re-done the concept he helped create some 40 years ago, and, as you can see above, it looks just as impressive. And it equally impossible to see production ever.

While Ferrari and the likes are hard at working developing hybrid sport cars, Porsche has yet to say anything in regards to the matter. However, reports have surfaced today that Porsche CEO Michael Macht has said that the automaker will not be producing any such thing.
Why? Well, his reasoning is that they aren’t driven in the city therefore giving Porsche no need to produce a hybrid. And, while it is possible, he says, it is not part of the plan.
Well, Porsche, with the rising gas prices perhaps you should think about incorporating it into your plan, no?

Italian reports are surfacing that Ferrari is set to debut a 599 hybrid concept in March at the Geneva Motor Show. There isn’t much to go by right now but the same reports suggest that the concept will use a version of the kinetic energy recovery system found in Ferrari’s Formula One cars.
The kinetic energy recovery system matched with some lithium ion batteries, among other things, is said to give the car a gas mileage increase from 8.7 mpg to 13.8 mpg.
Unfortunately this remains just a rumor until Ferrari says anything else.

Ferrari has unveiled a second made-to-order car for Edward Walson, son of Cable TV inventor John Walson. Walson first approached Ferrari in 2008 and wanted a modern interpretation of a 599 GTB Fiorano which was shown at the 1968 Fellini film Toby Dammit. And he got just that in the form of a gold-colored Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta.
The special car is street-legal and took 14 months to complete. It comes loaded with 612HP and a 6.0 liter V12 engine. The car weighs only 44 pounds thanks to the use of extensive carbon fibers. The price for the production of the Ferrari P540 Aperta was not disclosed.

If you’re looking for a new GPS, and you want the absolute top of the systems, you may well want to consider the Ferrari Traffic Assistant.
It comes in convenient red and black rally colors, costs a whopping five hundred bucks, and has a whole host of unexpected features for a GPS. The Ferrari model will, for example, detail the locations of hotels, museums, restaurants, and service stations.
In all honesty, I had thought that most GPS systems already DID all of that stuff as a matter of course and for definitely a whole lot less money besides, but then again, I don’t suppose very many of them come with the official Ferrari signature and, by extension, endorsement.
That’s a question you’re going to have to ask yourself before you pick this one up–is it worth an extra three hundred bucks or so to get the Ferrari brand? I personally doubt it, myself, but to each their own.

Ferrari, Maserati, Bugatti, SSC Ultimate Aero and a Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Convertible.
No, that’s not the guest list on tomorrow night’s BBC installment of Top Gear, but rather a partial lineup of the kind of things you’ll get to see at the OC Auto Show, widely regarded as the “start” of show season.
Knowing that it’s fighting an uphill battle with consumers in rapid retrenching mode and corporations cutting back in a grim death march to bankruptcy, the show’s got to pull out a few stops in order to get anywhere. Included in this year’s plans? A special appearance by Absolute Poker pro Matt Vengrin, a live mixed martial arts cage battle, and not one, but THREE bikini contests, including the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Model Search.
If I’ve got your attention, and chances are something on that list did, you’ll be happy to know that getting into the show might be the cheapest thing you do all day: adults get in for $10; senior citizens (62 and older) shell out $6, students with ID pay just $5 and kids under 12 are admitted for free.
The show starts today and runs through Sunday.
