Capstone CMT-380 Hybrid Supercar

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Hybrid cars are known for lacking in speed but not when you hear that it is powered by a jet engine. With that in mind, expect the car to go over the speed limit which brings us to the Capstone CMT0380 hybrid supercar. This hybrid supercar is driven by electric motors which doesn’t have problems with acceleration; all it needs is to spin up the car when more power is needed and recharge the batteries that provide power to the motor.

But while all that seems to be idealistic, there are some flaws of course such as the exhaust comes out of the turbine at an uncomfortably high temperature. And lastly in what may perhaps be the significant downside is the price. For $200K to $300K, the price doesn’t seem too practical for people turning to electric cars for wiser spending. Not even the filthy rich? There may be exceptions for sure.

Almost no details have been released regarding the car but WorldCarFans suggests that it will feature a lithum ion battery, 4 in-wheel motors and a range of up to 93 miles. In terms of charging, the car will apparantely reach a full charge after 8 hours.

8 hours? Let’s hope those guys over at MIT get their rapid-recharge system out sooner rather than later.
