Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition Racing Now Available

The Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition racing car will finally be made available come January, a concept race car that was initially shown at the SEMA 2008 in Las Vegas. It comes equipped with the TDI Cup Edition Kit which includes a front bumper, side skirts and rear valance. The Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition will also feature a 2.0-liter clean diesel engine loaded with 140HP paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Other notable enhancements include an 18” Charleston wheels with performance all-season tires, sports seats and a multi-function steering wheel that features paddle shifters when equipped with the DSG transmission.

Mazda Set to Unveil New Engine and Transmissions at Tokyo Motor Show

Mazda will be among the many car manufacturers at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show on October 24. For their part, Mazda is expected to debut the Mazda Kiyora Concept Car although that is not the only thing they will be unveiling. They will also unveil their next-generation engine and automatic transmissions lineup. This includes the Mazda SKY-G direct injection gasoline engine Mazda SKY-D clean diesel engine and the Mazda SKY Drive high-efficiency automatic transmission.

These new technological advancements are expected to help in the improvement of fuel-efficiency as well as some eco-friendly enhancements and optimized combustion systems. But a lot of the focus is sure to be on the Mazda Kiyora Concept car which highlights the next-generation Mazda SKY concept powertrain technologies and comprehensive advancements in weight reduction for better fuel economy at 32 kilometers per liter.

Jaguar Land Rover Recalls Discovery 3 Cars in China

The Jaguar Land Rover Auto Trade Company Ltd. in China has recalled over 214 Discovery 3 cars due to defective brakes and engines. About 1,069 Discovery 3 cars have been reportedly sold in the mainland between June 2007 and May 2008 where the issue was traced to a problem in the diesel engine that may catch fire at the worst possible scenario.

For their part, Jaguar Land Rover has announced that they will be replacing the defective parts of all issued models free of charge. Car owners who have purchased this model should immediately bring their car to the nearest maintenance center for check-up and possible replacement if necessary.

Rally cars are not that in demand for places like the US and Europe but there are exceptions. Perhaps if this vehicle would target places like Dubai, it can be something worth having. The Rally Fighter is an off-road racer, custom designed and built for the deserts of the American Southwest. Toyota Launches First Internal Combustion Hybrid Lift Truck

Toyota launches its first internal combustion hybrid lift truck, GENEO-HYBRID, an 8,000 lb. counterbalanced lift truck that combines a 2.5-liter diesel engine, electric motor and nickel-metal hydride battery to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 50%. This new offering from Toyota Industrial Corporation will make its debut in the Japanese market this December.

As businesses look to reduce fuel costs and decrease CO2 emissions, Toyota Hybrid technology offers a practical, proven solution by capitalizing on the advantages of existing fuel sources and infrastructure. The new GENEO-HYBRID lift truck will cut CO2 emissions and fuel consumption in half while delivering the operational performance of an equivalent conventional diesel-powered lift truck. The result is a lift truck that provides both improved environmental performance and economic benefits for customers due to lower fuel costs.

Kubota RTV1140CPX Four-Seater Utility Vehicle

On the industrial side of things, we often see utility vehicles that are limited in seating capacity. But now, Kubota unveils the new four-seater utility vehicle, the Kubota RTV1140CPX, carrying more and taking workers to various places needed inside their plant or office.

Actually the seating design can be adjusted as needed. It converts from one-row seating to two-row seating depending on the customer’s passenger and cargo need at any given time. This is all possible because of the RTV utility vehicle’s rail system, which enables a quick and easy conversion between the one-row and two-row seating options.

Chrysler Donates Two Jeeps for Italian Casualties

Chrysler has donated to vehicles to aid in the rescue efforts of the victims of the earthquake that hit Italy. Chrysler, in cooperation with its supplier, VM Motori S.p.A., has donated a Jeep Liberty (Cherokee model outside of North America) and a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to the Italian Civil Protection Department (Dipartimento della Protezione Civile).

The Jeep vehicles were being used for diesel emissions testing and engine development at VM Motori, a diesel engine manufacturing company located in Cento, Italy.

“Chrysler LLC donated a Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler to the Italian Civil Protection Department so it has the additional resources it needs for response interventions and initiatives to assist the people of the Abruzzo region after this devastating disaster,” said John T. Bozzella – Senior Vice President, External Affairs and Public Policy/President, The Chrysler Foundation.

Dana Reveals Spicer TE-15HX Hybrid Transmission

Dana Holding Corporation has come up with a conceptual hybrid transmission system called the Spicer TE-15HX, an electric parallel hybrid that features a dual power path transmission control system. This system continuously monitors operating conditions and selects the proper combination of diesel and electric power to optimize productivity while reducing fuel consumption, emissions, noise, and engine idling.

Whenever possible, the TE-15HX control system disengages the diesel engine and supplies power generated by super capacitors for inching and other vehicle operations that require low energy consumption. It also provides power for lights, climate control systems, and other electrical accessories.

For light loads, the diesel engine works alone to power the vehicle while the electric device serves as a generator to efficiently charge the super capacitors for later use. Vehicle braking is also an important source of regenerative energy for recharging the capacitors. When additional tractive effort is required, the controller directs the electric device to function as a motor and provide a second source of power for added torque boost and faster take-off.

Audi Announces Price for 2009 Q7 TDI

Audi has revealed today the prices for its 2009 Q7 TDI, the world’s cleanest SUV. The Q7 TDI is scheduled to arrive in U.S. dealerships later this month.

Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices for the Audi Q7 TDI Premium start at $50,900. Prices do not include a destination charge of $825, taxes, title or dealer charges. Buyers of the 2009 Audi Q7 TDI also qualify for a $1,150 Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit, according to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

The clean diesel technology found in the 2009 Q7 TDI provides 30% better fuel economy than gasoline engines of similar size. That means the Q7 TDI offers the efficiency of 25 mpg in highway driving and a range of more than 600 miles on a full tank. The Q7 TDI also gets an EPA-rated 17 mpg in city driving and combined fuel economy of 20 mpg.

The advanced TDI clean diesel engine in the 2009 Audi Q7 TDI is significantly less intrusive on the environment than past diesel engines. The 3.0-liter V6 engine in the Audi Q7 TDI produces about 25% less carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, than traditional gasoline engines. The advanced exhaust emission control system found in the Q7 TDI reduces smog-causing nitrogen oxides by up to 90% when compared with past generations of diesel technologies sold in the U.S.

The 2009 Audi Q7 TDI offers plenty of amenities to go with its technological advances. The exterior of the new Q7 TDI features sporty S line styling upgrades, including S line front and rear bumpers, S line badging, headlight washers and 19-inch five-spoke wheels.

Inside, the 2009 Q7 TDI includes power 12-way heated front seats with leather seating surfaces throughout, seven passenger seating, dual zone climate control, wood decorative inlays, power tailgate, Audi Multi Media Interface , Audi Music Interface with iPod cable, premium sound w/ 6-disc CD changer, garage door opener (HomeLink), Parktronic, preparation for mobile phone (Bluetooth) and SIRIUS satellite radio.

New Volvo Diesel Engine Gets Turbocharged

Borgwarner’s R2 regulated turbocharging system promises a lot of benefits and this includes faster driving as well as economic consumption of the Volvo. BorgWarner’s regulated two-stage (R2S(R)) turbocharging system enhances performance and improves the fuel economy of Volvo’s new 2.4-liter D5 diesel engine, which powers the recently launched S80 luxury sedan.

Working with Volvo engineers, BorgWarner’s award-winning R2S(R) turbo technology helped beat fuel economy targets while significantly improving driving dynamics. Volvo’s new D5 diesel engine produces 205 horsepower with 420 Nm of torque but consumes only 6.2 liters/100 km of fuel (nearly 38 mpg), a significant improvement over the 185 horsepower, 400 Nm of torque and 7.1 liters/100 km of fuel consumption (33 mpg) delivered by previous D5 diesel engines.

Volvo has unveiled its latest alluring four-seater C70 Coupé-Convertible in the United Kingdom, packing extra appeal this spring with the introduction of the ‘Ice White’. Mercedes M-Class Diesel-Electric Due This Autumn

A greener and much anticipated diesel-electric car from Mercedes is expected to hit showrooms this Autumn. To help address fuel consumption issues and savings, the said Mercedes M-Class is expected to address the carbon-emission issues which are set under 300 gm/km.

The M-Class hybrid mates the familiar 3.2-litre, low-emission Blue Tec diesel engine to a 4×4 transmission incorporating twin electric motors. Mercedes says the combination will cut fuel consumption by 30 per cent compared to the standard model.

Mercedes and BMW have developed the technology together with General Motors and Chrysler. News of the upcoming M-Class hybrid first broke nearly four years ago and Mercedes-Benz has been promising its imminent arrival since the 2007 Frankfurt car show.

Mahindra Xylo Crossover Launched

In what has been christened the answer to the Range Rover, Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced a luxuriously equipped SUV crossover named the Xylo. The Xylo is expected to change the face of consolidating 4×4 driving with luxury once this SUV hits the market.

India’s answer to the Range Rover will cost from 624,500 rupees (just over £8,800). It features a 112bhp 2.5-litre diesel engine, and is said to do 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds; there are three rows of seats, and equipment including dual-zone air conditioning, laptop and phone recharging sockets, parking assistance, a trip computer and USB/MP3-compatible stereo.

The Xylo will initially be distributed in India. However, once this SUV settles down, expect it to be exported into other countries like Europe and the U.S. as well.

Gas or Diesel: Does It Make a Difference?

In earlier years, people would turn to diesel-powered vehicles to help avoid the rising cost of gasoline. The variance in price per liter was obvious and for the wise motorist looking for manageable costs in fuel consumption, diesel run cars are certainly it.

But today, all that has changed. Gasoline has certainly become manageable and if you compare the price disparity, they are close to being the same. Add to the fact that diesel has been known to be a major pollutant hence making it a serious threat towards putting carbon emissions in check.

Gasoline is not spared from these carbon emission issues. But between the two, it is apparent that gas power is the lesser of two evils. Maintenance wise, it is easier to manage a gas powered car over a diesel engine especially if you talk about calibration issues which ensure optimum performance for vehicles.
