For car owners, diesel consumption can be of varied tales. And to find out the different stories about diesel consumption of consumers, The Diesel Technology Forum is calling on diesel owners and users nationwide to power up their video cameras and diesel equipment to tell their diesel story.

Videos that best put together a personal and creative story of how diesel works in the lives of individual diesel car owners, equipment operators, farmers, truckers, boaters, and other users will be eligible to win one of three $250 gift cards for fuel or merchandise.

Diesel fuel and engine technology are the backbone of our economy and still unmatched in terms of fuel economy, energy efficiency, reliability and performance. Diesel car and pick-up truck owners are especially encouraged to submit entries, especially those who may have bought a diesel instead of another technology.

Finalist videos will be posted on the Diesel Technology Forum website (www.dieselforum.org) and a winning video will be selected from each of three categories including personal transportation (light-duty cars, pick-up trucks, SUVs); heavy-duty highway vehicles; and off-road engines and equipment (farm, construction equipment, boats, airplanes, etc.).

When you talk about luxury cars, Mercedes Benz will always be there among the top names. With the Mercedes-Benz E280, it still holds that pleasant appeal that has made this luxury brand a name to reckon with. But while it may be nearing the crossroads of its showroom aura, don’t count out this Mercedes-Benz E280 sports edition series that is expected to come out soon.

The E280’s 3-litre turbo-diesel engine musters up 140kW of power and a massive 440Nm of torque or pulling power. With the windows up and the sound system off, it’s difficult to tell that you’re driving a diesel car, except when the engine’s on the cold side.

Only then do you hear a faint far off rattle from the engine bay. Press down on the accelerator — in true Mercedes-Benz fashion you’ll need to mash it almost all the way to floor when performing overtaking maneuvers — and there’s a muted V6 growl and fist full of urge.

So while some are seeing the Mercedes-Benz as an aging brand, it still has its way of conquering cities and subduing the highways with its supple yet firm ride.
