Honda FCX Clarity

You can’t buy a Honda FCX Clarity yet, but Honda is letting about 200 people in Southern California lease them for a limited period of time, which may be a sign that Honda is getting closer to production. The Honda FCX Clarity is the first viable hydrogen powered car created by a major manufacturer.  The Clarity is the first car in circulation that uses a hydrogen fuel cell for power. The fuel cell works by taking hydrogen and oxygen from the air and converting it to electricity, which then powers the car.

The Honda FCX Clarity has a range of about 280 miles before it has to be refueled at a hydrogen energy station. It has zero emissions and does not need to be plugged in, ever, as it generates its own electricity using the hydrogen cell. It never uses gasoline. With a top speed of 100 MPH highway travel is no problem, unlike most all-electric non-hydrogen powered cars which up until now tend to have low top speeds. (The very expensive Tesla is one exception.) No word yet on when the Clarity will be available for purchase, but the limited lease options went for $600 per month.
