DS Insider Interior

The Citroen DS insider was first displayed back in March at the Geneva Motor Show. The DS nickname, which stands for “Different Spirit”, provides the basis for a new line of cars to be named DS3, DS4 and DS5, hinting at bigger and better models to come. Recently, Citroen has revealed pics of the interior of the DS Inside concept car, showing a stylish and upmarket new design that looks nearly production ready.

Targeted right at cars like the Mini Cooper, the DS Inside features sporty bucket seats, full leather upholstery, and an complex center console with piano-black trim. The premium theme is further accented by the thick carpeting and vinyl roof lining.

It seems that Citroen exec Jean-Marc Gales is setting his sights high for the company he joined after giving up his post as Mercedes-Benz. How high you ask? Well, he wants to secure the title of Europe’s #3 automaker.

But how is he going to pull this off? Well, he is taking the company in what he describes as an unorthodox approach. Autoblog quotes Mr. Gales as saying the following:

It’s not important for us to produce 6 or 7 million cars to survive… We have another strategy, we believe in alliances, we cooperate with Ford and BMW on engines and gears, the most expensive parts to develop in a car.

This is a brave statement by Gales as the company currently sites at #7 in relation to Europe’s other automakers. Who’s #1? Volkswagen, duh.

Electric Citroen C1

The Electric Citroen C1 will soon be available across the UK for £16,850 ($24,800). This (electric) car, isn’t actually manufactured by Citroen; it gets an aftermarket electric powertrain by the Electric Car Corporation. The aftermarket addition, however, does have the approval from Citroen.

Unfortunately the specs aren’t all that impressive, with a six-hour charging time and a range of 60 to 70 miles, but if it’s green that you’re looking for, then it isn’t all that bad. The company plans conversion of 500 C1s this year, producing close to 2000 to 4000 units by the end of next year.

Car lovers who are crazy about well-kept vintage cars may very well want to check out the Knysna Motor Show. This event was made possible to help out charities and the Knysna Hospice. Over 120 vintage cars were on hand, including four Minis and four Morgan sports cars. This year the Morgan marque racks up a century of production and the Mini celebrates 50 years of motoring history

The cars showcased names that are legendary in the annals of motoring – Triumph, Austin Healey, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Citroen vied for attention with the likes of Morgan, MG, Austin, Morris, Jaguar and Ford. Almost a third of the vehicles at the Knysna Motor Show were the much-loved MG. A total of 33 MGs covered a range of six different models from 1947 onwards.

Citroen C7

Scheduled to possibly launch as early as 2010, the Citroen C7 Concept is in essence a 4-door, 4-seat sedan with coupe-like dimensions, which shows off a refined and graceful exterior with a narrowing rear section. To allow for a better field of vision to the front seat passenger while at the same time affording privacy to the rear seat passengers, the mounting line of the side windows gives the car an unique look.

This futuristic car also sports a swiveling front passenger seat that rotates to a 180-degree angle to interact with the paasengers sitting in the rear seat. The Citroen C7 will be spacious enough to comfortably accommodate four adults. We’ll keep our eyes open for this one.

The video above shows us a real test drive of the GTbyCITROEN concept presented last year in digital form in Paris. No matter if you understand French or not you will certainly appreciate this GT car. Citroen actually plans to build it. At least 20 units of it. Expect it to be fast and expect it to make an impression. Also expect it to cost you quite a lot, if you can get your hands on one. Citroen DS Series

French automaker Citroen announced this week that it is revamping the cars in its popular “DS” series, and will also launch a total of six new vehicles over the coming three years as part of a push to overcome the difficulties facing automakers worldwide right now. In addition to the new cars and the retooled GS models, Citroen promises to revamp showrooms, refresh its chevron logo and improve customer service.

The plan was originally launched in 2007, but last year’s global economic downturn has added a sense of urgency and commitment. Citroen marketing and communications director Xavier Chardon declined to say how much had been invested, but said: “when we look at the costs, in the end it is an investment which will save us money.” The first new release will be the Citroen DS3, which will go on sale in European markets in early 2010.

The car in the picture here is a concept designed by Antonin Maire D’Eglise for his masters diploma project conducted in Citroen’s Design Center. The C-BIONIC is a car of the future. A darker future for us all. By the time we will need to produce it, we will have depleted most of the natural resources needed when making a car. A new generation of cars will arrive, one that is characterized by de-materalization and genetic science.

The chassis of the C-BIONIC is made out of a genetically engineered tree while the rest of the parts are made from other biodegradable materials. After 3 years each car will die and it will be returned to Earth. You will keep the engine and you will have it mounted in the next C-BIONIC car. What do you think? Remember the HYmotion4 hybrid technology we’ve seen in a couple of Peugeots at the Paris Motor Show? They were the Peugeot RC and the Prologue. Besides those the Citroen Hypnos and C4 WRC share the same technology and it’s the C4 WRC we’re going to talk about today.

The C4 WRC is a hybrid race car which we might soon see in various races. The car has a 125kW electric motor at the rear axle attached to 990 lithium ion cells which produce 400-volts. The driver can choose which motor to use and when. S/he can couple both engines for more power. What’s innovative about the system is the regenerative braking which allows you to recharge the batteries while driving.

I’ll be interested to seeing a hybrid race car in action. We’re probably going to have more manufacturers looking into this solution for their racing models.

We couldn’t overlook the GT made by Citroen. We’ve gone through the teasers and we were waiting to seen how this beauty will look in live pictures. If I was to choose between the GT and the Estoque, I think I’d go for the French supercar here. It has a certain je-ne-sais-quoi to it.

It must be the doors. Or all those horses under the hood which will get you from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Would I drive it? Hell yeah! Where do I sign up? When is it going to be available? How much will it cost? I am ready to turn that piggy bank into little pieces…

OK I must admit the design is a little weird but I like weird.

By now you should already be aware about Lamborghini’s teaser campaign. We’ve seen every picture released and we are waiting for the full unveiling which will take place in Paris. This concept car was supposedly going to be called Urus. That’s what we heard earlier this week. It looks like the name will not be that at all. Some people have started mentioning the Estoque name

We are already aware that the GT comes in white. The Citroen concept shows its rear now. We definitely want more and while the Paris Motor Show gets closer and closer, we’d like Citroen to continue the tease and send more pictures to bloggers.
