Chevy put out this fine bit of advertising trying to appeal, no doubt, to those of us who wouldn’t have thought of this car as doing well on snow.  It shows, clearly, that the Camaro is one horse that can handle the drifts and slick roads and do so in fine style.

Admittedly, the course they had this Camaro on was a closed course, and it didn’t look like it was tackling more than a couple inches of snow, but still–it was clearly moving at a high rate of speed on what would clearly be described as snow covered road.

Anyone who’s tried driving snow covered road will tell you that driving at a high rate of speed on one of them is a difficult proposition at best, and a really bad idea at worst.  So kudos to Chevy for making the Camaro look like a great snow vehicle!

And thanks to the folks out at Edmonds Inside Line, we’ve got a video of the big highlights of the 2010 Chicago Auto Show!

The big deal at the Chicago show is Ford, Ford and more Ford, not surprisingly.  They came out strong with their Edge, which turned out to be a huge improvement over the previous model, and the GT500 is also shaping up better.

GM’s Chevy Silverado also made a splash at the show, and their revamped Dodge Challenger was a real head-turner with a coat of fuschia paint.

Kia and Honda also stepped in with some interesting and ecologically sound concept cars.

So it was definitely a show to be seen–keep it here, because you know there will be plenty more impressive news items to pour out of this show.

But that’s actually not too bad of news, because there’s still plenty of run-em-and-wreck-em style craziness going on out there, even amidst the various legal dramas.  The Davidsfarm Encyclopedia Dramatica page is an unmitigated HOOT.

Meanwhile, what we all came here for–a Chevy Blazer and a Wagoneer in a demolition derby.

Needless to say, the video is plenty entertaining in its own right, and will feature loads of cracked up junkers duking it out for our erstwhile entertainment.  Indeed, the whole thing is terribly entertaining, and the best part is, considering these buckets were both on their last legs anyway, nothing of any real value is lost.

So the crew out at Chevrolet took some of our tax dollars and put together this informative little video–and I mean little, too, it weighs in at just short of three minutes runtime–explaining just how exactly that electric car works.

I personally had a big problem when they announced, in the most chipper manner possible, that with a full battery and a full tank of gas you could get three hundred miles range.  Why does this annoy me so, you wonder?  Well, I already get over three hundred miles on a full tank of gas and I don’t need a battery to do anything more than start the car.  Of course, my gas tank might be a bit bigger–twelve gallons, roughly–but it has better range than this magnificent electric car.

But still, the look at the Chevy Volt is highly informative and pretty easy to understand, too.  So satisfy your curiosity about this new paradigm in American automobile engineering below!

Other than the fact that you can somewhat see the engine, what is the first thing you think of when you look at the above 1957 Chevy? Regardless of what it is, it probably isn’t fast. However, what if I told you that it actually has an engine capable of 1589 horsepower? Yup.

The work was done by Dominator Street Rods who outfitted the vehicle with a twin turbocharged, V8 engine capable of the ridiculous 1589 horsepower and 1508 pounds of torque. In addition to that its got some custom headers, Wilwood breaks and Schott Performance wheels.

I want one.

The crew out at Ice Station Zebra–I mean, of course, David’s Farm–is bringing a new and interesting cold start our way today–a 1979 Chevy 427 Dump Truck.  Just looking at this frozen, snow-crusted behemoth that looks like it hasn’t been started SINCE the seventies makes me shiver.

The boys from David’s Farm have cold started some strange stuff before, and they’ll likely find stranger in the future, but for today, it’s going to be about the weirdest cold start they’ve ever done.  Can they pull it off?

The answer will frankly astonish you.  Check out the video and see what happens!

See, the crew out at Car And Driver put together this great video of a 2009 Chevy Corvette taking a blisteringly hot lap around the track at the Virginia International Raceway.  It’s going spectacularly fast, and since it’s shot in a first-person style, you can actually get an excellent appreciation for the sheer sense of speed that’s being exhibited here.

The Chevy Corvette posts an absolutely incredible time, and you won’t believe what cars it managed to beat on that test lap.  The video, however, is below, and since seeing is believing, you won’t be in disbelief too much longer.

Some highlights from the video include the zero to sixty speed–brace yourselves because this sucker goes off the line to freeway speeds in 4.2 seconds, and goes from freeway speeds back TO the line in just a hundred and ten feet of braking room.

We don’t hear much about the Camaro these days, especially in light of all the troubles that parent company GM’s been having, but it’s good to see that even they haven’t forgotten their roots so far as to forget about the incredible speed and power of the Camaro.  In these dark times of woe and want and joblessness and “going green”, it’s good to see that the old muscle cars can still get a  bit of time in the sun.

And not to recharge, either….

Well, we’ve got video footage today from the wilds of Canada, where a couple canny Canucks decide to try and start some Chevys in deep cold, like -9 degrees cold.  And I’m reasonably sure they’re talking Celsius, which would put it around -20 Fahrenheit.

Considering that when they took to the first Chevy and discovered that the door itself had frozen shut, you knew this had to be a seriously cold day.  In fact, there was a layer of snow on the Chevy’s hood, making it pretty clear that this wasn’t doctored.

2010 Chevy Camaro

Lovers of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro have already placed orders for over 25,000 cars, but only half of these orders have been filled. Apparently demand hasn’t let up in spite of the downturn in the economy. Prices are remaining high due to the demand, as well, according to Bloomberg While many cars, foreign and domestic, on the market are offering some sort of financing or incentives on them, the Camaro has none.

In fact, it’s selling for about $500 over sticker price. The 2010 Camaro comes in a range of trims, starting with the entry-level V6-powered LS and mid-range LT model, and ending at the grin-inducing 6.2L V8-powered SS models. Both six-speed automatic and manual gearboxes are also available.

Specter Werks Corvette GTR

The C6-based Corvette GTR from Specter Werkes has released an updated version of the modified supercar that is currently on sale. The Specter Werkes GTR mixes custom bodywork with a distinctly American look at the supercar muscle. The addition of a custom cam design with more lift brings output to a whopping 615hp (459kW) and 578lb-ft (783Nm) of torque. The full bodykit features a new front and rear fascia, front and rear fenders, exposed carbon fiber details on the exterior, carbon fiber splitter, extractor hood, doors, rocker panels, and a carbon fiber rear diffuser, to name just a few.

The car is painted in BASF liquid silver color (the same used on Mercedes Benz AMG models), while the interior gets GTR-standard embroidered seats with Spinneybeck leather trim details. This Corvette GTR upgrade base price starts at $34,995, with additional custom work available. All GTRs are custom-built to order and carry documentation to that effect. Note, these upgrades are available across the Corvette range, including the new Grand Sport, base Coupe, Z06 and even the ZR1.

2010 Corvette Grand Sport

Chevrolet is planning a variety of updates for the Corvette for the 2010 model year, with changes affecting the full lineup, from the base model up to the hot ZR1 supercar. First will be the introduction of the Grand Sport Model, which returns for 2010 with widebody styling and racing suspension. Pricing for the new model has been revealed via the world’s largest Corvette dealer Kerbeck Corvette.

Dave Salvatore of Kerbeck Corvette disclosed to CorvetteBlogger that the new Grand Sport Coupe will be priced from $55,720 including delivery, while the Grand Sport Convertible will cost you back $59,530 including delivery which is a $6,205 increase over the price of the base 2009 Corvette Coupe and $5,360 over the price of the base Corvette Convertible, respectively, but you will get a lot more for your money.

Apparently, the supplier in question is still in business and has signed a new agreement with GM. Moreover, GM spokesman Terry Rhadigan has substantiated the report to Automotive News that production of the awaited drop-top is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2011.

2009 Chevy Silverado

The 2009 Chevy Silverado holds its line well when going down interstates and moves through turns without billowing around. The workhorse powertrain also makes a good showing during more practical applications such as towing. Navigating this or any other full-size crew-cab pickup, for that matter, around crowded city streets and parking lots, however, can cause you to sweat because you feel as if you’re taking up the whole road and actually, you are! The wide and plush seats provide long run comfort and rear-seat passengers have it nearly as good as those in front.

The rear seats also have a flip-up mode to make a tall cargo space. The attractive cabin is relatively quiet at freeway speeds, with wind rush around the mirrors being the only noticeable violation. If you really need the capabilities of a multitasking pickup and but want lots of luxury, too, then consider the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ crew cab.

2009 Chevy Malibu Hybrid

The 2009 Chevy Malibu Hybrid is much like any other Malibu, in other words it is a rather unforgettable midsize sedan. On the downside, the out-of-date four-speed automatic is a mediocre performer, and the hybrid’s acceleration is even pokier than the LT1’s. Once on the road, the Malibu Hybrid honestly feels underpowered, peculiarly below about 5,000 rpm.

The center stack two large knobs and clearly marked buttons making the climate controls pretty idiot-proof. The stereo is also a cinch to operate but the sound quality is average. On a brighter note, the front seat provides comfort and the rear legroom is ample. Overall the hybrid’s quiet, soft ride makes it a decent companion around town or on the highway but some features are behind the times.
