2010 Chevy Camaro

Lovers of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro have already placed orders for over 25,000 cars, but only half of these orders have been filled. Apparently demand hasn’t let up in spite of the downturn in the economy. Prices are remaining high due to the demand, as well, according to Bloomberg While many cars, foreign and domestic, on the market are offering some sort of financing or incentives on them, the Camaro has none.

In fact, it’s selling for about $500 over sticker price. The 2010 Camaro comes in a range of trims, starting with the entry-level V6-powered LS and mid-range LT model, and ending at the grin-inducing 6.2L V8-powered SS models. Both six-speed automatic and manual gearboxes are also available.

Specter Werks Corvette GTR

The C6-based Corvette GTR from Specter Werkes has released an updated version of the modified supercar that is currently on sale. The Specter Werkes GTR mixes custom bodywork with a distinctly American look at the supercar muscle. The addition of a custom cam design with more lift brings output to a whopping 615hp (459kW) and 578lb-ft (783Nm) of torque. The full bodykit features a new front and rear fascia, front and rear fenders, exposed carbon fiber details on the exterior, carbon fiber splitter, extractor hood, doors, rocker panels, and a carbon fiber rear diffuser, to name just a few.

The car is painted in BASF liquid silver color (the same used on Mercedes Benz AMG models), while the interior gets GTR-standard embroidered seats with Spinneybeck leather trim details. This Corvette GTR upgrade base price starts at $34,995, with additional custom work available. All GTRs are custom-built to order and carry documentation to that effect. Note, these upgrades are available across the Corvette range, including the new Grand Sport, base Coupe, Z06 and even the ZR1.

2010 Corvette Grand Sport

Chevrolet is planning a variety of updates for the Corvette for the 2010 model year, with changes affecting the full lineup, from the base model up to the hot ZR1 supercar. First will be the introduction of the Grand Sport Model, which returns for 2010 with widebody styling and racing suspension. Pricing for the new model has been revealed via the world’s largest Corvette dealer Kerbeck Corvette.

Dave Salvatore of Kerbeck Corvette disclosed to CorvetteBlogger that the new Grand Sport Coupe will be priced from $55,720 including delivery, while the Grand Sport Convertible will cost you back $59,530 including delivery which is a $6,205 increase over the price of the base 2009 Corvette Coupe and $5,360 over the price of the base Corvette Convertible, respectively, but you will get a lot more for your money.

There is some good news, it looks like the Chevy Camero Convertible is back on track for a March 2011 launch. Cost cutting measures at GM along with concerns that the German supplier of the Camero Convertible’s roof mechanism was about to go out of business led to last week’s reports that the car was put on hold indefinitely.

Apparently, the supplier in question is still in business and has signed a new agreement with GM. Moreover, GM spokesman Terry Rhadigan has substantiated the report to Automotive News that production of the awaited drop-top is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2011.

2009 Chevy Silverado

The 2009 Chevy Silverado holds its line well when going down interstates and moves through turns without billowing around. The workhorse powertrain also makes a good showing during more practical applications such as towing. Navigating this or any other full-size crew-cab pickup, for that matter, around crowded city streets and parking lots, however, can cause you to sweat because you feel as if you’re taking up the whole road and actually, you are! The wide and plush seats provide long run comfort and rear-seat passengers have it nearly as good as those in front.

The rear seats also have a flip-up mode to make a tall cargo space. The attractive cabin is relatively quiet at freeway speeds, with wind rush around the mirrors being the only noticeable violation. If you really need the capabilities of a multitasking pickup and but want lots of luxury, too, then consider the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ crew cab.

2009 Chevy Malibu Hybrid

The 2009 Chevy Malibu Hybrid is much like any other Malibu, in other words it is a rather unforgettable midsize sedan. On the downside, the out-of-date four-speed automatic is a mediocre performer, and the hybrid’s acceleration is even pokier than the LT1’s. Once on the road, the Malibu Hybrid honestly feels underpowered, peculiarly below about 5,000 rpm.

The center stack two large knobs and clearly marked buttons making the climate controls pretty idiot-proof. The stereo is also a cinch to operate but the sound quality is average. On a brighter note, the front seat provides comfort and the rear legroom is ample. Overall the hybrid’s quiet, soft ride makes it a decent companion around town or on the highway but some features are behind the times.

2011 Chevy Volt

GM announced plans to upgrade its only electric vehicle, the Chevy Volt, shortly after its initial release in late 2010. Specifically, GM is looking at improving the battery that powers the Volt by driving down the size and the cost of it. The 400 pound battery is the most expensive element in the vehicle, and producing a competitively priced vehicle is vital to GM’s recovery and continued existence in the United States. Improve the Volt’s range on a single charge, which as it stands is set at only 40 miles, is not part of the plan for upgrades, according to GM executive Frank Weber. “My goal is not to go from 40 to 60 miles in the next generation vehicles,” Weber said of the Volt’s range.

Instead, GM is focusing on cost and weight. Several smaller startup companies already have vehicles for sale that match or exceed the Volt’s 40-mile range. Canada’s Zenn Motor Co will release an all-electric vehicle later this year with a range of 250 miles on a single charge and a top speed of 80 MPH. The current model of the Zenn has a range of 30-50 miles on a charge, costs under $13,000, and is available right now.

Bose has a new sound system for the future 2011 Chevy Volt. It’s the Energy Efficient Series which will do wonders for your car. It’s going to be 30% smaller and 40% lighter than regular Bose sound systems. As for power consumption it will use 50% less energy which fits great with the Volt’s need for energy. What do you think? 2009 Corvette ZR1

The long awaited 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1 is now available for order at Chevy dealerships, although it won’t come cheap, or easy. The LS9 motor produces 620 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 595 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. The Corvette ZR1 comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 connected to a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox with a new high-capacity clutch, giving the ZR1 more power than any other Corvette to date. GM has not disclosed specific performance numbers, but the company admits a top speed of 200 mph is very likely. Loyal Corvette customers will care about that, but almost certainly won’t hold off ordering the ZR1 for want of an upper limit.

The 20 inch wheels are the largest on any production Corvette in GM’s history, with chrome optional. A luxury inside trim package is available that includes power-adjustable leather-trimmed sport seats, leather-wrapped interior elements (including the dashboard), a navigation system, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Chevy Corvette ZR1 has a base MSRP of $103,970.

One car worth remembering was the 1980 Chevy Citation X-11. The X-11 was best remembered via the conventional 3-door sedan or the 2-door notchback. Among the features that the X-11 had to show included:

• Front and rear stabilizer bars
• Rear spoiler
• Full instrumentation
• 2.5L four-cylinder, or a 2.8L 115hp V-6 coupled to either a 4-speed manual with overdrive or a 3-speed automatic.

In 1981, the V-6 boasted 135hp, which gave the X-11 a 0-60mph time of 8.5 seconds, which was very good for 1981. Later X-11’s had lesser torque, due to emission controls.

However, due to some safety concerns and recalls. Chevy tried to improve the X-11 but eventually ended up replacing it with the Corsica sedan or Beretta coupe.

Chevy Aveo

Although small by American standards, the Chevy Aveo remains GM’s best seller in the European market, and for good reason. The 2009 Aveo is equipped with a zippy 1.6-liter Gen 3 Ecotec engine that performs well both in the city and on longer trips. The manual transmission model of the Aveo earns an Environmental Protection Agency fuel-economy rating of 27/34 mpg city/highway, which is not too shabby, even when compared with pricier foreign sub-compacts. The 2009 model is bigger inside than you might expect and comes in either and hatchback or sedan, both with an MSRP that starts at only $12,625.

The folding split rear seat is convenient for carrying larger items home without sacrificing comfort and the five star frontal crash test safety rating lets you relax while you’re behind the wheel of this little but sturdy car. The 2009 Chevy Aveo is available in a wide array of youthful colors and can be souped up with as much audio equipment as you need. All in all, the Aveo is a great inexpensive first car.

Volt

No matter what, America will get the Chevy Volt. On time. That is the battle cry over at General Motors these days, and it’s being echoed once again on the pages of The Wall Street Journal. Still, there is reason to be skeptical as the Feds have yet to agree on a loan package for the struggling Detroit automakers. The General has just announced that it’s stopping work on the plant in Flint, Michigan, where the Volt’s 1.4L range-extender was to be built alongside the powerplants slated to go under the hood of the new Cruze compact. Regardless, says GM, nothing will stop the Volt project from moving forward, not even Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Engines can be imported from overseas.

Where will the money come from? That’s a big question mark, but GM spokespeople suggest that whatever funds there are will be diverted to the Volt program. Some may question if this is a good idea, especially considering that the extended-range electric car isn’t going to be a big money-maker for the beleaguered automaker. GM counters those claims by saying it has promised the green car to Americans eager to reduce their use of oil. In other words, it would be a PR disaster not seen since the crushing end of the EV1 if the Volt didn’t make it as scheduled.

Equinox

Chevrolet will show the all-new 2010 Equinox small SUV at the Detroit auto show.

A new, 182-hp, 2.4-liter direct-injected four will be standard. A new 3.0-liter DOHC direct-injected V6 will be optional, delivering 255 hp. Chevy expects nearly two-thirds of customers will choose the four.

The new Equinox is a great looking vehicle, drawing inspiration from the Chevy Malibu and Traverse–both good-looking themselves.

The interior has a ton of storage bins, such as an oversized glove box; a closed storage bin in the instrument panel above the center stack; and closed storage under the center armrest large enough for a laptop.

The rear seat can be moved fore or aft nearly eight inches and splits 60/40.

The 2010 Equinox goes on sale in mid-2009, available in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels, with available all-wheel drive.
