If you think the Mitsubishi iMiEV was the only vehicle Mitsubishi planned to release in the electric car market, then guess again! Today, Mitsubishi has bared that the iMiEV is only the start of their electric car revolution. The Japanese-based car company plans to unveil 5 more electric car vehicles by 2013.

Among the highlights of the next cars on Mitsubishi’s agenda include:

1. a left-hand-drive i-MiEV by the 2010 fiscal year for the European market
2. an electric commercial vehicle in the 2010 fiscal year
3. a larger electric car
4. a sportier version of the i-MiEV
5. a plug-in hybrid S.U.V. by the 2013 fiscal year

Whoa! Just when you thought that Mitsubishi was pinning its hopes on the iMiEV, this comes out. Now it seems interesting on what these additional electric cars would have to offer. While the iMiEV’s pricing was already bared ($45,600), you have to wonder how much these next cars would cost.

If you ask the motorists, they are surely counting on something cheaper. These cars really cost a fortune!

With the impending era of electric car vehicles practically a done deal, Better Place today achieved a milestone in accelerating the mass-market adoption of electric vehicles by demonstrating the world’s first battery switch technology along with electric car charging spots. This simple range extension technology delivers a cleaner, more convenient experience for drivers.

Better Place was the only foreign company invited by the Japanese Ministry of Environment to demonstrate its switch technology, which provides a viable solution to make electric vehicles a reality by offering drivers virtually unlimited range.

Better Place showcased its battery switch platform today using a modified NISSAN electric crossover SUV to demonstrate how to switch a depleted battery for a fully charged one. The company also demonstrated its commitment to open network standards by charging a fixed battery electric car, via one of four Better Place charge spots installed at the demonstration site. Recharging of the vehicle batteries is made possible by Sharp Corp. photovoltaic solar panels, creating a truly zero emission solution.

The switch technology featured in the Yokohama exhibit will be further developed into production for the commercial switch stations, which will be deployed in Better Place markets around the world.
