We are all aware that the search for alternative fuel for use by cars these days is growing rampant and apparently we have seen a lot of them. Leading the pack are biodiesels and ethanol but as criticized before, the matter of how the car engine would react is still up in the air.

The manufacturers claim that they will not have any effect and even improve car performance. However, as far as the Philippines Petron Corporation is concerned, they are harmful and may lead to damaged car engines.

The Ethanol gasoline E10 is the alternative fuel being hit, said to be highly corrosive. The E10 fuel is still being sold locally in the Philippines and reports of damaged car engines have been relayed. The Department of Energy (DOE) has been urged of the matter and nothing has been divulged as of yet.

The E10 damages a car’s gas tank, fuel pump, carburetor and fuel injector according to Petron Corp. Chairman Ramon S. Ang. The problem, he said, was that the government did not specify that there should be a dehydrator to remove the water content, which is what makes the ethanol-blended gasoline (E10) highly corrosive.

One part of improving the car infrastructure is the gradual shift toward digital technology. And by this we don’t just mean the entertainment and navigational systems that most cars carry today. This includes the analog parts that include improving the temperature control systems.

This includes addressing the critical fluid systems that will help improve the life of fluids of various engine components. With the Digital Rotary Control Valve, this can be done. Not all people are familiar with the usual car troubleshooting and guides to help enhance car performance and safety. And for that matter, Advance Auto Parts announced the expansion of its Driver Education Teacher Program, “Advance Your Knowledge,” which is used as a tool for driver education teachers in 15 states.

As of Spring 2009, the program had reached an estimated one million students, helping to increase their awareness about the connection between vehicle maintenance and driving safety.

The program is now being used by teachers in Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. “Advance Your Knowledge” is free to all state affiliated drivers education programs with replenishment support available.

“Today’s vehicles are complex. Our multimedia kit is designed to help instructors help their students understand vehicle basics, especially as it relates to their personal driving safety,” says Bryan Gregory, director of consumer education for Advance Auto Parts. “Our commitment is to help teachers impart vehicle maintenance and safety information that is most relevant to young drivers, and to encourage parents to discuss vehicle maintenance with their new driver. That is why we developed this program.”
