Volvo Powertrain signed an agreement on May 18 with the salaried-employees local unions in Köping regarding shortening of work hours with income reduction. The agreement, which covers 180 salaried employees in Köping, also includes the management group for Volvo Powertrain in Köping and as a result the layoff notices for 25 salaried employees issued in April 25 have been withdrawn.

Negotiations are under way regarding an agreement on shortening of work hours for the other salaried employees within the company’s Swedish division.

Apparently a lot of these dealers are seeking the US Bankruptcy Court to delay hearings until the amicable settlement on asset sales has been reached.

“Chrysler’s proposed asset sale and request for immediate termination of dealer franchises will destroy several hundred independent businesses, ruin the livelihoods of their owners, cause the loss of thousands of jobs and precipitate inevitable personal and business bankruptcies flowing from the closing of the affected dealers,”

The move may be a big blow for Chrysler’s transition towards the “New Chrysler” with Fiat/UAW presumably assuming control over the troubled carmakers operations. Then again, this was to be expected as a lot of loose ends are bound to come out from this Chrysler debacle.

The Rich Vogler Classic will now be held at Winchester Speedway when the USAC National Sprint cars return for Thursday Night Thunder on Thursday, July 2nd.

The Manning Service 100 for the CRA Super Series late models will be added to the May 17th Pier-Mac Plastics King of the Wings Sprint Car Challenge, which will now be the season opening event for Winchester Speedway and will also include season opening events for the CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.

The cancellation was announced on Saturday afternoon to allow race teams and fans to alter their travel plans for Sunday in the interest of curtailing costs during this economically-challenging time.
