Eaton’s TVS Supercharger Wins 2009 PACE Award

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Eaton Corporation has gained headway today as it has been awarded the 2009 Automotive News PACE Award for its revolutionary Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger, an all-new Roots-type positive displacement design selected to boost the performance of the 2009 Corvette ZR-1, Cadillac CTS-V, Audi S4, Jaguar XKR and Land Rover.

“This is a great honor and reflection on the talented people we have working in our organization and the drive they posses to come up with relevant innovations,” said Darryl Niven, general manger – Eaton’s Supercharger Division.

Overall, the new design is 20 percent more efficient than previous Eaton superchargers and it produces a thermal efficiency of 75 percent and a 2.5 pressure ratio. It also has improved noise, harshness and vibration (NVH) characteristics. The improvements are a result of the TVS’ twin intermeshing four-lobe rotors that are twisted 160-degrees.

Eaton Corporation is a diversified power management company with 2008 sales of $15.4 billion. Eaton is a global technology leader in electrical components and systems for power quality, distribution and control; hydraulics components, systems and services for industrial and mobile equipment; aerospace fuel, hydraulics and pneumatic systems for commercial and military use; and truck and automotive drivetrain and powertrain systems for performance, fuel economy and safety. Eaton has approximately 75,000 employees and sells products to customers in more than 150 countries.

Cadillac Converj Concept Car

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

In what many would see resembling the Cadillac CTS coupe, the Cadillac Converj is actually General Motor’s backup for the Chevy Volt. The 2009 concept car can run the same 40 miles as the Volt on electric power and the engine-generator kicks in to recharge the batteries and sustain electric propulsion afterwards.

So what differentiates the Converj from the Volt? Styling — or as GM vice chairman Bob Lutz put it, the sort of razzle-dazzle that might make the Converj appeal to buyers based on looks alone. The four-seater features Cadillac’s familiar angularity stretched to concept-car proportions, with 21-inch wheels in front and 22-inchers in the rear.

But while it seems that the Cadillac Converj promises to be another steal, it all depends on the performance of the Volt. Cadillac could certainly adapt a luxury version, which one analyst we talked to said makes more sense from a pricing standpoint.

Cadillac CTS-V Debuts in Qatar

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

It seems that most car manufacturers today are recognizing Qatar as a great place to introduce their new cars these days. The latest vehicle that will be debuting in Qatar is the Cadillac CTS-V, a high performance luxury sedan.

Mannai Auto has confirmed this report and in fact it is not really surprising. We have seen other car companies opening shop in Qatar and from the looks of it, the Cadillac CTS-V is certainly not going to be the last.

Described as a masterpiece of automotive engineering, the CTS-V is part of Cadillac’s V-Series line of high performance vehicles. The CTS-V boasts a 6.2 litre V8 engine that churns out a whopping 650hp and 747 Nm of torque.

The engine is coupled with either a six speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter for faster and more accurate gear changes, or an automatic six-speed paddle shifter. The end result is a zero to 100kmh time of just 3.9 seconds.
