Students over at the Monte Vista High School under the AYES (Automotive Youth Education Systems) were the lucky recipients of a 2009 Subaru Legacy, donated by Subaru of America. The donation was part of Subaru of America’s for schools in their continued studies on automotive technology, perhaps awaiting various insights and innovations that may be implemented in them soon.

This comes after Subaru had donated another vehicle, a 2006 Subaru Legacy at the Ontario High School. With the new 2009 Subaru Legacy, the company is pinning its hopes that students can study new technology and come up with their own concepts right there at Monte Vista High School.

1394 Automotive will be holding an Automotive Technology seminar this April 30, to strengthen its hold as one of the leaders in global standard in-vehicle networking. The 1394 Trade Association will sponsor an Automotive Technology Seminar April 30, featuring presentations by industry leaders and the latest products and innovations.

The seminar begins at 1 pm Thurs., April 30 at the Dearborn Inn Marriott. It will provide the industry with a comprehensive view of the 1394 Automotive standard and use cases for the vehicle.

Topics to be covered include network applications; standards overview; interconnect system solutions; 1394 device technology; software; testing/diagnostics; and a system overview. The trend is logical but no one ever thought that the sudden growth for used cars would become this noticeable. The numbers have escalated and blown out of proportion, making new car makers simply look in awe as the wiser consumers today have opted to check out and shop for used cars in a faltering economy to save on expenses.

Edmunds.com has determined that approximately 511,000 used cars sold in the past three months would have been new car sales in a more normal economy. Projecting ahead, this could represent a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of more than two million vehicles, which equates to more than 15 percent of total new car sales. In manufacturing terms, that amounts to about two assembly plants’ new car production, reported Edmunds’ AutoObserver.com.

“It is safe to assume that many shoppers who normally would be tempted by ‘new car smell’ and the latest automotive technology made a more cost-conscious decision because of economic pressures,” surmised Edmunds.com Senior Analyst David Tompkins, PhD, whose team studied historical ratios of online research and actual sales of new cars versus used cars.
