Rumors have just surfaced that say Audi is working on a successor to their A2 vehicle. This seems fine and dandy but the cool part of the rumor is that this supposed successor will feature an electric drivetrain.
Word comes from Audi CEO Rupert Stadler who said, “There’s clearly room for another product and another concept between the A3 and A1.”
Of course, it’s just a rumor at this point but Autobloggreen hints at the electric powertrain from the A1 e-tron concept making its way into the A2 successor. Additionally, various media sources have said if these rumors are tru,e the vehicle in question will likely make its debut sometime in 2014. Unfortunately, unless there’s a demand for it Audi probably won’t bring this to the United States.
One of the great things about doing this sort of thing is that you get a whole lot of simulated track time in various cars.
So sit down, strap in, and brace yourself because we’re going for a hot lap around a Daytona test track with the Audi B8 S4.
Be assured, that when they say “hot lap”, they’re not talking about a department store Santa in December–they really mean a HOT LAP. The Audi B8 S4 goes flying around the test track with the engine almost managing to reach a shrill whine from sheer force of thrust.
If you weren’t interested in driving one of these already–and chances are, most of you were–the proof will be in the video that this car can generate some truly awesome high-speed excitement.
Check out the video below for all the evidence you’ll ever need to explain your Audi love to everybody who just doesn’t get it.
Before you wonder, no, this isn’t a competition for go karts–the “hundred pound” in the headline above is an indication of cost, not weight, as in “one hundred pounds sterling”.
If you’ve seen Top Gear before, and enjoy it like we do here, you’ll know that they love the high-dollar top-end sports car experiences. There are days when I’m convinced that they would have a Lamborghini’s baby if it were possible.
But a lot of people said much the same thing, and thus, the Top Gear boys decided to economize for a couple episodes and brought us the Hundred Pound Car Challenge.
It’s a two parter, and we’ve got both below–but here, the boys get their hands on some dirt cheap cars and put them through their paces. The cars in question come from Volvo, Audi and, I believe, a GTI Range Rover.
The results are both hilarious and highly informative as only Top Gear can provide.
Check out the videos below, and pay special close attention for the backhanded praise for their cheap cars as they make their first distance trip.
The folks out at Fast Lane Daily have set up a video of the stuff they’re most looking forward to in 2010. We’ve got that video, so let’s have a look at their choices!
First, way to manage disappointment there, Derek–it may well be the most horrifying sign of the times that DeAngelis, the video’s host, pretty much tells you that nothing good is coming, but what little actually DOES emerge will be ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY WICKED COOL AWESOME EEARGH! It’s too bad that nothing he talks about is really that cool, and how most everything he talks about is either up-priced or down-scaled in some way. Price hikes for Porsche and Mazda, the engine stepped down in the Audi, and so on, all reflect a “you get less” feeling.
Second, yeah, I like that new Mazda hatch with the big smiley face up front, but I can’t imagine paying twenty five grand for it.
Third, talking about tiny Audi engines is kind of scary.
Lastly, Derek DeAngelis should not be allowed to sing again. Enjoy the video, folks.
This video here is actually pretty interesting, in that it not only gives footage of a really awesome Audi R8 V10, which is good enough for most anybody under normal circumstances, but it represented a unique opportunity.
The crew out at The Smoking Tire, who put this video together, were down a reviewer that day, and thus held open auditions on the spot to find a fill in for their missing man. No word on if the guy got offered a permanent gig, or if this was just one of those one-shot things–frankly, it’d be weak sauce to NOT offer him the gig, but I’m not The Smoking Tire.
Anyway, the video is pretty sweet, and their fill-in guy seems competent enough. But that car really is the centerpiece of the whole operation, an absolutely beautiful Audi R8 V10. I don’t know what circles you travel in, but I don’t see many V10s, let alone Audi V10s.
Check it out below, and hope with me their new guy got a job!
Talks of a hybrid Q5 coming from Audi have been circulating for some time now but not until recently has the automaker come forth to speak of its production.
News comes from a press release that details how Audi plans to increase their vehicle portfolio from 34 to 42 by 2015. One of those vehicles listed in said press release is none other than a Q5 hybrid, set to hit the streets sometime in 2011.
Unfortunately we have no specs or anything of the sort regarding the car yet but we’ll let you know as soon as information is made available.
Folks, if you’ve been here for any length of time you know that the Top Gear guys are tops in our book–we love what these guys do for the entire concept of automobiling.
Thus, when I discovered that they’d released a top ten list of their favorite cars of 2009, well, I couldn’t help but be amazed. So what was on that top ten list? You’ll have to check the video below, but you won’t be any less astonished for what you see.
Of course, Top Gear’s almost pathological love for the sports car shows through on this list as Audi and Alfa Romeo and Ferrari make it on the list, but you might well be surprised to see stuff like the Ford Fiesta as the Least Boring Green Car of the Year (guys, come on–the Tesla Roadster is WAY less boring. Or is that more of a 2008?).
I’ll leave you to the video for the rest of the list, and thanks to Top Gear for continuing to provide loads of great stuff!
You’ve got to hand it to the crew out at Audi–they really know how to put a commercial together. Well, either they do or their PR company does. Admittedly, this is something of a fine point as it really doesn’t matter WHO’s behind it, because it’s really an amazing commercial.
Christmas in this neighborhood takes on a bit of a competitive edge as each house vies for the title of “best lights in the neighborhood”. And while most houses go overboard in the grandest Clark Griswold tradition, one house’s lights are much more understated…but somehow, the best lights in town.
I was not aware that, and it certainly looks like it from here, Audi headlights aren’t comprised of one bulb, but rather, several smaller LEDs. This is probably a really good idea as I’ve seen LEDs that put out incredible light, though I wouldn’t really like to drive into those beams. But if you’re behind the wheel, I bet you can see great.
So we’ve got some action footage for you of the 2010 Audi S5, and by all reports it’s a pretty sweet car.
Of course, the down side here is that you’ll have to sit through a “review” of this car both written and hosted by a man who might be the least entertaining reviewer on the face of the earth. Seriously, it’s like watching Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off talk about a car.
Anyway, we’re not going to let some putz in a casual-day suit stop us from enjoying a car, and there’s a LOT of car here to enjoy. The Audi S5 has a convertible soft top, which is actually both good and bad for a lot of reasons (got to hand it to the guy–he’s as entertaining as a corpse at a funeral but he gives plenty of information) and if you’re liking the Audi S5 you’d better save up now–it costs a whopping SEVENTY GRAND.
You’ve got to love the idea of having a touchpad control menu in your car, and with the Audi MMI Touch Input, the whole idea suddenly becomes a lot safer, too.
See, with a lot of these menu screen systems, that control a whole lot of the car’s optional systems, you have to input your commands via a rotary dial or a touchpad or the like, and that can take your attention off the road.
But where the Audi MMI Touch Input is so different is that it allows for what’s called blind typing. Blind typing is a practice by which you draw letters on a touchpad without looking, one at a time. By allowing this option, the Audi MMI Touch Input allows for incredible control while still engaging in safe driving. Let’s be honest–most of us have driven one handed at one time or another and, for the most part (despite what your driver’s ed instructor would tell you about ten and two) we’ve all come out of it without incident.
So kudos to Audi for giving up a control system that’s also plenty safe.
