Rewards for the upkeep and maintenance of old cars normally set in after some years. And if you want to get a lucrative return for your car maintenance efforts, place it at special events like auctions. This was the storey of a fully restored and well-maintained 1965 Shelby Cobra netted at a Las Vegas strip. It was auctioned off and was sold for a whopping $440,000. This was only one of 10 cars which were reportedly auctioned off for $200,000 or more. As far as the Cobra was concerned, the car had zero miles and had a fully restored engine.

We’ve known about the GM/eBay partnership since early last month but haven’t heard much about its progress since. Today, however, we have some concrete details on when exactly the program will go live.

It seems that GM is gearing up to launch a trial of the program tomorrow through September 8th in California thanks to 225 of their dealerships whom will be participating. Included in this new car auction campaign are Chevrolet, Pontiac, GMC and Buick models which you can bid on by going to gm.ebay.com or chevy.ebay.com. Of course, those two websites won’t go live until tomorrow when the program is officially set to.

If this program proves to be in GM’s best interest I see no reason why the automaker wouldn’t launch it nationwide.

General Motors is exhausting all means possible to make the “New” GM as flexible as possible. And from the looks of it, they will be making use of the online methods of eBay as far as auctions and selling is concerned.

Now the question is will it work? Well it does address a wider market considering the web covers practically the whole world and the people who can afford to buy a new vehicle. But you have to wonder if people would actually buy a car online?

Another area for consideration is nothing has been mentioned yet for people who may avail of financing plans. This is of course assuming that GM will not include it in their online sales methods. As far as “Buy It Now” options, it may not really be the proper time to do so.

If struck, the deal will allow customers to buy cars online, purchasing and auctioning them like they do on any other goods. This will fundamentally change the existing auto sales model, and may become a future direction.

Certainly, we hope to get more details on this. As of now, the whole concept seems blurry. But expect this to ironed out some more, if it does push through which seems likely.

Last May 22, I had posted about this crazy auction for a 2010 Honda Insight over at Rockybid. Though we never got to find out who really won this vehicle (or if there was any truth to the deal), today it was announced that a Lancaster Camp Director won the auction held over at Rockybid.

Jane Megginson was the proud owner of a 2010 Honda Insight which she won for a mere $1.24. Megginson will be at Paragon Honda to collect her 2010 Honda Insight which will also be streamed over at the Rockybid Blog.

Rockybid.com is an online auction website that makes prizes available to users for negligible prices. The site auctions off other items at significant discounts as well, including brand new flat screen TVs, digital cameras, Nintendo Wiis, iPods and more.
